Source: Seahawks, Rice reach deal
ESPN.com news services

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a five-year, $41 million contract with wide receiver Sidney Rice, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

More From ESPN.com
Sidney Rice is a 6-foot-4 Pro Bowl wideout. ESPN.com's Mike Sando his addition is a huge move for the rebuilding Seahawks. Blog

For some reason, Rice's relationship with the Vikings had turned cold and ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert says it's clear he wanted out. Blog

After a breakout 2009 season where he racked up 1,312 yards receiving with eight touchdown catches, the 24-year-old Rice had hip surgery last August and missed the Minnesota Vikings' first nine games in 2010.

The 6-foot-4, 202-pound wideout finished the year with 17 receptions for 280 yards and two touchdowns.

He was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2009 but missed the game when he was injured in the NFC championship game against New Orleans.

He signed a four-year contract after being drafted in the second round by the Vikings in 2007.

Who will be throwing to Rice remains uncertain.

Longtime Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck agreed to a deal with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

In his place, the Seahawks agreed to a deal Tuesday with Rice's former teammate in Minnesota, Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson will compete with Charlie Whitehurst for the starting job.

Seattle also agreed to a deal with right guard Robert Gallery on Wednesday, helping to shore up its offensive line.

Albert Haynesworth to New England this morning..

Immediately on twitter all the national writers started saying what a good move this is.....if he went anywhere but new england or philly they would be crucified.....sick of the double standard.

I am dissapointed in peter king for reacting the same way.

Throwing numbers at a position. They did it last year at runningback and had such success at it, afterall.

The thing is with New England they have the track record. They did the exact same thing with Randy Moss and it worked out better than anyone could have imagined. So I can see why people give them the benefit of the doubt.

And it might work out for a year or so. Washington is a shit hole, and Albert is a shithead. That's a bad combination. Same with Mandy Ross and Oakland. We'll see. At worst it's a 5th two years from now.

Stokley and Gaffney at least were former Broncos so that makes sense. it would have made more sense if they went after Rice to get a #1 to go with all the #3's they already have, but I think they're trying to lose while still maintaining the illusion that they're trying to win.

yeah that makes sense sp. They also did it with corey dillon and I understand the trust there.

but I am stubborn and it still bugs me. They havent won a playoff game in a while, since 07 and they have had alot of turnover and have had a knucklehead or two on there own....merriweather..and then moss....and they lost a home playoff game to a divsion rival they blew out earlier...

those are things most organizations get killed for. Especially when the ravens destroyed them in the playoffs the year before.

but again I get it.....I am still stubborn about it though!!

I wonder if they'll make him a DE. He didn't want to play nose in Washington, I don't see why that would suddenly change. But Bellichick loves situational players so he might be dreaming up some pass rushing packages to put Haynesworth where he wants to be.

It would have never worked here but I'd have almost have been interested to see what that would have been like if we had done that here. Rat at nose and Albert at DE with Ware coming off the edge with Albert motivated to shove our division rivals nose in it. If this had been 2008 we might have gone for it. :)

They're the last dynasty, and they have the greatest coach in NFL history.

Plus... ESPN lives in their backyard.
