Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris agreed Wednesday, Jan. 11, to join the staff of the Washington Redskins. He will serve as the defensive backs coach. Head coach Mike Shanahan said he will allow Morris to void his contract if he is able to secure a defensive coordinator position next year.

Source: Raiders, Todd Bowles to talk

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- New Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said he already has a short list of potential coaching candidates and would like to fill the position as soon as possible.

McKenzie has made plans to interview Todd Bowles, who had been Miami's secondary coach before taking over as interim coach for the final three games of the season, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

McKenzie, who began his playing career as a linebacker with the Los Angeles Raiders in the 1980s, returns to the franchise as general manager after having been schooled for nearly two decades in the ways of the Green Bay Packers. It's that model that he will try to replicate in Oakland as he aims to restore the Raiders to a level they haven't reached during a nine-year playoff drought.

McKenzie signed his contract with the Raiders on Tuesday and immediately fired coach Hue Jackson. His next task will be to bring in a new coach that he hopes he can work with in a fashion similar to the relationships between Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren and Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy that led to Super Bowl titles in Green Bay.
"I only know one way," McKenzie said at his introductory news conference. "I've been working at it for the last 18 years and it started with Ron Wolf, what he implemented in Green Bay. I saw how it works. That's the only way I saw and that's the only way I know."

With some current Packers assistants such as linebackers coach Winston Moss, secondary coach Darren Perry and quarterbacks coach Tom Clements, possibly on that list, McKenzie may need to wait until Green Bay's season ends to make a move.
Information from ESPN senior NFL analyst and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Jeff Fisher picks the rams.

I am telling you guys, Carl Peterson is scaring people away, not the lack of a franchise qb. He is an awful gm with an enormous ego.

Harbaugh, cowher, gruden and now fisher have all said no thanks to an owner who is dying to spend money on a big time coach to fill that stadium.

Has to be peterson looming on the horizon.

Clayton just said Fisher didnt want Ireland having the final say on personnel. Apparently it was a deal breaker for him.

that makes sense to.

I get the sense also that peterson will be right over irelands shoulder. Peterson is the one who initially hired ireland in kc.

albert bree is saying Mike Zimmer is the leader in Miami. I guess because of the relationship with jeff ireland.

that just seems like something no one will care about and they will have a half empty stadium next year again with a bad record.

Todd Bowles is familiar with him too. I don't get it.

Wait...Todd Bowles is black. Jeff Ireland is a racist.

Dirk Koetter to Atlanta as OC

Heard Gregg Williams is leaving New Orleans to rejoin Jeff Fisher with St Louis, and that the Saints will now pursue either Spagnoulo or Mike Nolan

Figures.

Either way they will have a better coordinator than us.

If they pull spagnuolo out of this I am going to get even more aggravated this offseason.

Kind of shitty on Williams part to just up and leave and join his buddy considering Payton paid part of Williams salary in 09 out of his own pocket. I would feel betrayed.

I have always thought Williams is a little overrated as a coordinator, but he's a very close friend of Jeff Fisher's apparently.

And he's probably tired of being the DC for a HC who likes to throw 50-60 times a game

This a horribly run franchise, if I were Todd Bowles I'd almost hope I dont get this job.

Sources: Dolphins, Mike McCoy talkingESPN.com news services

Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is interviewing Monday for the Miami Dolphins head coaching vacancy, team and league sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Owner Stephen Ross sent his private jet to pick up McCoy in Denver to bring him to South Florida for the interview.

McCoy was supposed to interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coaching job last week, but with the Broncos then still in the playoffs, he never got to go and the position went to Mike Mularkey.

McCoy helped restructure the Broncos' offense midway through the season to capitalize on Tim Tebow's unique skill set, a move that buoyed the Broncos to the AFC West title.

Jeff Fisher turned down the Dolphins' offer and accepted the coaching job in St. Louis, the Rams confirmed Friday. Ross and general manager Jeff Ireland quickly hit the reset button in their search, but the rejection represented a major setback.

At one point Wednesday night, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter it was "80-20" that Fisher would choose Miami over St. Louis as his next job.

However, the Dolphins and Fisher could not agree on the structure of the organization, league sources said. Fisher was willing to make some compromises, but the Dolphins wanted Ireland to remain as the No. 1 man in the organization, and ultimately, it helped unseal any potential deal with the Dolphins, according to the sources.

Among the other candidates interviewed by the Dolphins, the only one with any NFL head coaching experience is Todd Bowles, thanks to his role as their interim coach for the final three games this season.

Other candidates interviewed by Miami have included Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and Chicago Bears special teams coordinator Dave Toub.
