Redskins considering ex-Buccaneers coach Morris as DB aideBy Jason La Canfora NFL Network
NFL Network Insider

The Washington Redskins are considering Raheem Morris for a position coaching the team's defensive backs, according to league sources.

The Redskins are in the process of shaking up their coaching staff following a 5-11 season. Morris interviewed with the team this week after he was fired Monday as head coach of the Buccaneers following three seasons in Tampa Bay.

Morris also holds strong ties to Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and could have a potential opportunity there

The Chargers canned DC Greg Manusky after just one season. They promoted LB coach John Pagano to the coordinator spot.

Hmmm, Manusky leaves San Fran and with essentially the same group of players SF improves by leaps and bounds under Vic Fangio. Manusky goes to San Diego, and with essentially the same crew that had been highly rated for two yrs, they fall to the middle of the pack and he gets canned after one year.

Manusky was one of seevral guys Garrett interviewed for the DC job as fyi. Probably better suited to be a position coach, as he has basically failed in two different places now as a coordinator. Fangio was reportedly the guy Garrett most wanted to hire, folowed by Mike Nolan. Nolan of course never got free.

Fangio would have been great here. Just consider what he got out of Carlos Rogers this year. I don't think our players are as bad as they're being painted out to be. Coaching makes a huge difference.

That's why I'd rather have a proven staff that has actually shown they can make mediocre teams better ones before cutting all these players and declaring them losers.

Rogers has always been a good corner.

The reason why he had a stark improvement in interceptions this year wasn't because of Fangio. It was because he had Lasik eye surgery during the off season.

In Washington, the ball always hit him in the hands and he dropped it. That wasn't the case in San Fran.

That can be attributed to better vision.

O’Brien reportedly headed to Penn State
Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2012, 10:44 PM EST

Getty ImagesFour days after his agent said that Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien’s dream is “to be an NFL coach,” O’Brien has opted to press pause on that ambition to take on perhaps the biggest challenge in all of college football.

Per multiple reports, O’Brien will become the next head coach at Penn State.

Largely unknown until his December 11 sideline shouting match with Tom Brady, O’Brien will try to fill the shoes of Joe Paterno while at the same time carrying the anchor that Paterno’s top lieutenant, Jerry Sandusky, dropped onto the entire program. With the recruiting class in shambles, O’Brien’s immediate task will be to try to convince high-school students and their parents to choose to spend the next four or five years as part of one of the most daunting reclamation projects in all of college football.

O’Brien, 42, attended Brown University and has no prior ties to Penn State.

It’s currently unknown whether O’Brien will immediately leave the Patriots, or whether he’ll split time between the two jobs, as Charlie Weis did after he accepted the Notre Dame job in early 2005.

Terrible hire...they are handing over a marquee program, albeit troubled, to a guy who has not been a HC at any level.

Crennel looks like he is getting the KC job:

Sources: Chiefs' Romeo Crennel to stay
By Adam Schefter
ESPN

The Kansas City Chiefs plan to retain interim head coach Romeo Crennel, according to league sources.

Chiefs officials could not be reached for comment Saturday, and a timeline for when they'll make an announcement was uncertain.

Crennel has a good relationship with general manager Scott Pioli and is well-liked by his players.

And the Chiefs' Week 15 win over the previously unbeaten Packers and their 2-1 record after Crennel was named interim coach also worked to his favor.

I remember reading something a while back saying Garrett really likes/respects Raheem Morris. I was hoping he would be our next Secondary Coach.

lol at Bucs. Wade Phillips and Mike Zimmer as HC candidates.

Jeff Ireland is going to interview mike Zimmer tomorrow also.

Dolphins fans will be excited.

Zimmer hates the 34 and would have a better dc over his shoulder. That would work out real well.... Or not

Spagnuolo considers taking a year off

In a wide-ranging interview with Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, former Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo admitted that getting fired for the first time hit him extremely hard.

Spagnuolo said he was leaving for a 4-day getaway with his wife, Marie, as he decides what he wants to do next.

Spagnuolo is considering the idea of sitting out a year, something that his wife doubted he could do.

I heard he's heading to Pittsburgh. Sources tell me this.
