I'm not against the 43, just saying that Lovie's scheme is very different from ours, a radical change. Not everyone's would be.
Only players under contract for next year (and not in jail) in a 4-3:
LDE Jason Hatcher 6-6/305 (can also play DT) - Tyrone Crawford 6-4/285 - Ben Bass 6-4/288
LDT Sean Lissemore 6-3/303 - Marcus Spears 6-4/315 - Rob Callaway 6-4/333
RDT Jay Ratlif 6-4/303 - Brian Price 6-1/303 - Brian Schaefering 6-4/295 - Ikponmwosa Igbinosun 6-3/288
RDE DeMarcus Ware 6-4/260 - Kyle Wilber 6-4/246 - Monte Taylor 6-5/266
B Alex Albright 6-5/260 (can also play RDE)
MLB Sean Lee 6-2/245 - Dan Connor 6-2/241 - Caleb McSurdy 6-1/248
ROLB Bruce Carter 6-2/240 - Orie Lemon 6-1/242 - Brashton Satele 6-0/248
Now obviously some of these guys are training camp fodder and others will be cap casualties. Our biggest need would be
B which are much easier and cheaper to find than 3-4 OLB's. Ernie Sims would be a cheaper re-signing than Spencer will be.
We could also start Connor at MLB and move Lee to
B. Even if you want to bring back Spencer, he plays LDE, the position he played at Purdue and is not a huge transition from the way he plays
B in our 3-4.
I think this move improves our run defense, improves Ware, Carter, Lee, and Ratliff individually, makes SS Church less vulnerable in coverage, and is cheaper.
