Older players on there way out.

Spears played on bad knees and might retire.

Coleman will be replaced.

Are u one of these people that thinks every player needs to be a pro bowler?

Look who is our head coach. He can't get into the playoffs starting Tony Romo at QB.

I don’t think Ware is an every down rusher. Cowboys are already thin on the d-line as it is. 3-4 seems to be the perfect fit for all the linebackers Dallas has. BTW, Lovie’s defenses have never been known for exotic blitzes and mixing things up.

You generally need bigger ILBs for the 3-4. Look at Pitt. Ware is an every down rusher. That hasn't changed.

How many top 10 defenses has Ryan coached? Get back to me on that.

Say what you want aboput Lovie's defenses, but they are consistanly among the league leaders in turnovers.

Moseley just tweeted that the assistants are left twisting in the wind right now.

I really hope dumbass Jerry is building the staff based off of some advisor like switzer or something.

Should just let go of the entire stafff and HC. Its stupid to continue to ignore the obvious problems.

Lee played 6 games and Carter 10. Claiborne and Carr were average DB's. The problem with the defense is the dline not being disruptive at all.

Get pressure from the dline and Carr and Claiborne will be great

The scheme is what is holding back many of these guys. Hard to be more than average when your coach asks you to NOT play to your strengths and coaches such a passive scheme overall. You cant let opposing QB's have an eternity to throw, Ryan's scheme allos them too much comfort.

Ware can rush every down but i am talking about effectiveness and durability. Cowboys have two hybrids in Ware and Spears, both undersized DE’s. The d-line would have to be completely rebuilt to be a 4-3.

Rob Ryan has a Super Bowl ring, not sure how many Lovie has.

No question.

One step further we should be cleaning out the front office.

There are a number of good front office people available. We need a new group evaluating and making decisions.

If the same people who make the mistakes are being asked to fix them, it's a complete mess.

We sit back watch all these other organizations make changes each year. Denver fired everyone, put a new head guy in, he brought in his own guys.

nothing ever really changes.

Jerry will be in charge, romo will get the blame.

Sell in the offseason the improvements. Promise change in the season.

Freeney and Mathis were a terror for offenses in the exact defense and ware and spencer are bigger.

Ryan was the lb coach in New England.

Brian billick has a Super Bowl ring, want to hire him?

Btw.

The packers should hope they win this year.

The league is picking through the bones of that organization right now.

They are going to be without there whole front office that built that soon, minus Thompson.

I'm not against the 43, just saying that Lovie's scheme is very different from ours, a radical change. Not everyone's would be.

Only players under contract for next year (and not in jail) in a 4-3:

LDE Jason Hatcher 6-6/305 (can also play DT) - Tyrone Crawford 6-4/285 - Ben Bass 6-4/288
LDT Sean Lissemore 6-3/303 - Marcus Spears 6-4/315 - Rob Callaway 6-4/333
RDT Jay Ratlif 6-4/303 - Brian Price 6-1/303 - Brian Schaefering 6-4/295 - Ikponmwosa Igbinosun 6-3/288
RDE DeMarcus Ware 6-4/260 - Kyle Wilber 6-4/246 - Monte Taylor 6-5/266
LOLB Alex Albright 6-5/260 (can also play RDE)
MLB Sean Lee 6-2/245 - Dan Connor 6-2/241 - Caleb McSurdy 6-1/248
ROLB Bruce Carter 6-2/240 - Orie Lemon 6-1/242 - Brashton Satele 6-0/248

Now obviously some of these guys are training camp fodder and others will be cap casualties. Our biggest need would be LOLB which are much easier and cheaper to find than 3-4 OLB's. Ernie Sims would be a cheaper re-signing than Spencer will be.
We could also start Connor at MLB and move Lee to LOLB. Even if you want to bring back Spencer, he plays LDE, the position he played at Purdue and is not a huge transition from the way he plays LOLB in our 3-4.

I think this move improves our run defense, improves Ware, Carter, Lee, and Ratliff individually, makes SS Church less vulnerable in coverage, and is cheaper.

Lovie Smith has a Super Bowl ring too.

From his time as defensive coordinator with the Rams.

Uh... Ryan has a Super Bowl ring as a LB COACH. Big whoop. Naturally, the Pats wouldn't have won those Super Bowls had they not had him at the LB coach position.

How come that hasn't been parlayed into a coaching position?

Credit where it's due. LBs were the strength of that defense.

Bruschi. MgGinest. Took an unknown guy who never saw the field in Vrabel and turned him into one of their better players.

saw a stat recently that said no team with Rob Ryan as DC has had a better than 8-8 record. He isn't exactly taking the league by storm since his Patriot days.

Coached for/with the Browns and Raiders though. Two traditionally shit franchises. Kind of not fair.

Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyouria, John Abraham, Chris Clemons, Bruce Irvin, Elvis Dumervil.. I could go on. They are either of similar size or smaller than both Spencer and Ware.

Ware was bigger then Charles Haley.

Don't give me that undersized crap. It's all about technique, athleticism when it comes to pass rushing.

By going to the 4-3, we can avoid having to franchise Spencer, just let him walk.

Both of there linebackers and Ted Johnson made there bones with parcells teaching them the game. Much like ware and witten he taught them the toughness needed and what it takes in this league.

Rob Ryan deserves his ring because they were great.

But we are asking Ryan and eberflus to teach, scheme and out coach other opponents directly and he has not. My hats off to him for the second half of this season though.

But we need to be better there.

I remember Parcells making the statement that Ware was not a guy you wanted rushing every down. You run the risk of shortening his career. Ware’s body might be starting to break down from all the punishment he has taken. The guy has produced at a Hall of Fame level, but let’s go ahead and make him change positions. Makes no sense.

*BTW, if Ware is on the downside, i would trade him now.

And they were defenses that you could run all over.

They produced turnovers, got off the field on third downs and didn't give up a ton of points though.

If teams want to run themselves into third down that is fine with me, that is where we need to be better. Forcing turnovers and getting stops on third down.
