The sad thing is that neither one of you guys can truly rationalize it with a straight face. But then you both come to the dismissive "a second round pick is nothing" stance.

I never said it was "nothing"

I said it wasn't investing in a guy "at all costs"

Some of you are far too short sighted when it comes to the draft and what its supposed to do and not do for your franchise.

I believe it's pretty well known that Escobar is a shitty blocker.

Not sure who mentioned Callahan but I doubt he dramatically changes much this season. He might be a decent positional coach but he somehow ends up working for the most dysfunctional franchises in the league.

As for Rosario, there's a good reason he's barely being signed, and no, it's not bc he was so in demand that his asking price was too high...

Go Cowboys.

Forget the magical two-TE offense... What has me mindfucked is a DCU thread having more than one post per five minutes. Is this a record?

hope he's a cowboy for life but if we're rolling with Hanna and Escobar next season I wouldn't be mad.

I think the reason they probably thought about a guy like Eifert, and then ultimately invested a fairly high pick in a guy like Escobar is because they know Witten's days as a premier talent (and maybe in the league altogether) are probably getting fewer and farther between. He had a really serious injury last year, he's taken tremendous punishment over the years and almost never misses a down during a game that counts. He isn't the downfield threat he used to be from his position.

Going on year 8 of looking for a TE2 so I can't wait to see how long it'll take to find a TE1. Sounds joyous.

Then take the higher rated TE in Eifert...who also is considered a better blocker.

Dante Rosario isn't just a camp body

IRVING, Texas -- What does the signing of veteran Dante Rosario mean for the Cowboys?

This is not a camp body just to get through a couple of days. If the Cowboys wanted one of those, then they could have added some unknown face as the 90th guy on a 90-man roster or they just could have kept Paul Freedman, who was cut in favor of Rosario.

Rosario is more like James Hanna and second-rounder Gavin Escobar than he is Jason Witten. One scout described Rosario’s blocking as “serviceable.” He has some skill. He is big enough. He can also play special teams. He had four tackles in San Diego for the Cowboys’ new special teams coach, Rich Bisaccia.

Even after taking Escobar in the second round, the Cowboys have kept the search for another tight end alive. They missed out on a waiver claim on Mickey Shuler Jr. and now they have added Rosario.

Are they down on Escobar? It’s way too early for that. Are they down on Hanna? He’s done a nice job in the offseason and has maintained his No. 2 role in organized team activities.

The Cowboys are clearly marrying themselves to “12 personnel” with how they have looked at the position.

If anything it continues to spell the end for a traditional fullback on the 53-man roster. Lawrence Vickers is recovering from back surgery and has been unable to practice in the offseason. When he is healthy, he will have to show he’s worth keeping.

Which helps the team more, drafting Eifert at 18, or trading down and taking the best C prospect remaining to upgrade the sieve of an OL and take a guy who wasn't rated all that much lower than Eifert later?

Well I agree on that, Booze. He could never get Bennett involved, which I don't understand after he got rid of Fasano to get the guy he really wanted.

That Stretch Smith guy was saying one day that he heard not only would Romo be given more say but that our offense would be trimmed back. He said there was too much going on and at times our guys are thinking and adjusting too much on the fly, which keeps you from playing fast. (Which I have always suspected about Garrett's offense. I think that's one reason why sometimes it looks great and sometimes it can't get a first down without a bunch of mistakes.)

I just can't think of when a team's offense made a quantum leap forward because it improved its fourth or fifth option.

And also, I'm with you on Escobar's blocking. The team knows he's not good at it, they said it on draft night. They think he can improve because his technique isn't good, but he probably won't block as well as Phillips, at least this first year.

Oh we'll no point in watching.

Stretch smith says Garrett sucks, you guys say Escobar is no good.

Oh well.

I am going to enjoy the season and can't wait to see Escobar.

Sucks for you guys.

We traded down hoping Pugh was going to be there.
