Those were your words. Trying to hide from the stupidity now is cute, but ineffective.

Classic Hostile move

Yeah I know, I already said that. You're the liberal version of him. Son.

I mean the tale of the fall is adorable, really it is. It has all the classic elements of a fable - powerful gods, dimwitted humans, talking animals, magic fruit...it's an adorable attempt by our ancestors to address such questions as;

How did we get here?
Why do we die?
Why do we wear clothes?
Why is food so hard to grow and childbirth so fatal?

Adorable of course until people take it literally. Aesop called...

Then it got paired with the vile doctrine of original sin and the need for redemption. It wasn't enough for Christianity that their God just kill every fucking person on earth because some naked tart ate an apple. They wanted more. So they came up with redemption, wherein now you can be totally reconciled to God everyone - isn't that special? But, if you don't believe in him he is going to torture you for all of eternity.

God is love.

A great quote from Christopher Hitchens on this subject:

Religion comes from the period of human prehistory where nobody—not even the mighty Democritus who concluded that all matter was made from atoms—had the smallest idea what was going on. It comes from the bawling and fearful infancy of our species, and is a babyish attempt to meet our inescapable demand for knowledge (as well as for comfort, reassurance, and other infantile needs). Today the least educated of my children knows much more about the natural order than any of the founders of religion.

Careful, you're starting to lean away from your Hostile roots.

Starting to sound a bit CCboyish.

So does this mean that you conceded that original sin is conceivable? Cause that's all I heard while I was reading.

Here's the deal, apart from the bible people die cruely every day. People were wiped put by plagues, eaten by animals, burned to death and all of that. That is all fact even apart from the bible, Christianity or any religious idea. SP, you seem angry at a God that doesn't exsist for all of this. I don't get it at all. It reeks of insecurity in the worst way. Why all of the hostility?

I don't believe in the Muslim god (which by the way is believed in more widely that the Christian one) but I never think about it. I never give much of a thought to it at all. I'm not writing lengthy arguments about it or posting articles on message boards. For me, the most harmful threat to Christianity right now is lukewarm Christians. It's definitely not atheists or Muslims. It's ineffective, powerless, pussified Christians that live a life that Christianity in a way that makes the faith look stupid.

If your not down with it then just get on with your life. I'm not trying to be insulting, I just do not get it.

The story and what it is used for is stupid regardless of whether God exists.

Spoiler alert: he doesn't.

Try not being surprised that in a thread where we have been discussing religion that I *gasp* discussed religion.

I'm not gasping. I just asked you a direct question that you did not answer. Matter of fact, you seem to not really want to directly answer much of anything. It seems that you are very dodgy when it gets down to the nuts and bolts of the conversation. Perhaps you are more versed in the overall picture of sharing your viewpoint, but when it comes to answering point by point you become much weaker in your stance.

IMO, it comes from only understanding the talking points that are popular with atheism. Pretty much SOP and nothing new coming forth. None of this makes you trendy or particularly smart. It just makes you good at vomiting the same boring story that I've heard a thousand times. I'm not saying that you are dumb or anything...just that you are nothing more special than anyone. Just another guy that has bought into a certain way of thinking and a particular group's belief structure.

I'm guessing that this makes you feel more special than others because you feel that you are bucking the norm. At some point in your life your pride will bring you to a breaking point. You will discover that you are not any more special than anyone else but that you are human like everyone else. That you have human needs/spiritual like every other person out there. No idea what will happen but I wish you well in all of those things.

What it comes from is you asking a retarded question? this has been a long discussion that wound about, so for you to act surprised that I'm discussing religion on a discussion forum is really rather stupid. You got a concise, blunt answer to a stupid question. Your response to my issues with original sin and the redemption/ransom involved ignoring the flaws I pointed out and making a lame attempt at psycho-analyzing me. And you want to talk about someone else dodging? That is literally all you've done in this thread.

Hmm, here's the problem that I see with your credibility - you seem to make lots of statements as facts about pretty much everything. Now you have attempted to do the same about myself. Now let's take your last point you confidently made about me:

And you want to talk about someone else dodging? That is literally all you've done in this thread.

From what I remember, I invited folks to go ahead and ask questions and I'd answer those questions. I attempted to do that to the best of my ability. I'm sure I missed some info. After all, I'm a very fallible human being. Still, I'm guessing I answered 80% of the questions. Let's say I'm wrong and throw you a bone, because you desperately need it. Let's go with I attempted to answer 70% of the questions. Let's also assume that I am somewhere around "above average" intelligence so maybe I only scored a 80 on the test. That leaves 70% attempted of the questions answered X only 80% of them landing comprehend-able answers. That still leaves us with 56% of the questions answered.

So that make it impossible to be true that ALL I have done is "literally" dodge ALL of the questions. That is mathematically and scientifically impossible. Unless you are relying on your own screwed up faith to come up with that answer. Man, you faith guys are crazy!

I thought I answered all of the questions.

disclaimer: this study was not conducted in a controlled environment and mostly uses theoretical information to prove it's point. That's OK though because that is the same data that atheist use to prove that God does not exists, as well as the same data that is used to prove that God does exists by Christians. Thank you for your participation.

Do you understand what sarcasm is?

Now back to another point...is the only thing I have literally done is dodge answering questions?

Do you understand what sarcasm is?

That's why I wanted to ask and clarify before I rambled on like a ****** obsessed with minutiae rather than seeing the overall point. Which should answer your follow-up question as well.

Sweet, so literally, huh?

or

If you don't want me to take things that you say for what they are worth then I'd say everything that you have said so far is worth nothing.

Voyager1 is about to exit our solar system. $10 bucks says a bearded man gives em the stiff arm and tells them to turn around

I don't understand what this means but I feel that the discussion has more interesting possibilities than the one going on so far.

Go.
