When you point a gun at someone and pull the trigger you intend to inflict severe damage that will possibly cause death.

When you full mount someone, ignore their pleas for help, and bounce their head off the concrete you intend to inflict severe damage that will possibly cause death.

5 years for manslaughter.
After a few minutes research, it looks like Florida has a 10/20/life guidelines for certain convictions when a firearm is involved. Both murder and manslaughter charges qualify for 10/20/life guidelines.

If the offender possesses a firearm during the commission of the offense for which he is convicted, there's a 10 year minimum. 20 year minimum if the firearm is discharged. And 25 to life imprisonment if someone is killed. If he's convicted of manslaughter or a 2nd or 3rd degree murder, he might be looking at 25 minimum.

DEFLECT DEFLECT! So you concede Zimmerman's intent when he was aiming a gun at an unarmed kid?

They can't suspend some of the sentence?

Just because he was shot does not mean that Zimmerman intended to kill him.
Actually, when you point a gun at someone, pull the trigger, and shoot them in the chest, it's damn near impossible to claim you didn't intend to kill them.

When you full mount someone, ignore their pleas for help, and bounce their head off the concrete you intend to inflict severe damage that will possibly cause death.
Which was done in self-defense.

No, I don't concede that.

I think his intent was to protect himself.

I don't think his intent was specifically to kill.

Not bad. 25 years with good behavior (because you know he will be the good guy cleaning the library, washing clothes, cooking) you are looking at about 12.5 years and some really cool tattoos.

Not under the 10/20/life guidelines. Those 10, 20 and 25 year guidelines are mandatory minimum. Have to be done. At least that's what I've found.

Can he work a deal with prosecutors to get something lighter? I'm totally going off of what I've seen on Law and Order here.

Well, he's facing Murder 2. The something lighter would be manslaughter. Either way, everybody wins.

Media circus? Yeah....

Check out this "news"

George Zimmerman buys $79.84 worth of items from jail store

George Zimmerman is cooling his heals in jail, where he recently purchased a collection of items from the Seminole County jail store to help pass the time.

The Miami Herald recently tweeted a photo of a receipt from Zimmerman's $79.84 purchases that included playing cards, puzzle books, and Jolly Rancher candy.

Zimmerman also bought socks, a debit card for phone calls, Ivory soap, underwear, beef sticks, t-shirts, deodorant, chocolate cookies, and one orange. The purchase left $41.36 on Zimmerman's account.

Zimmerman, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Everyone seems to base the huge weight disparity on the old mugshot photo of chunkier Zimmerman. The guy has obviously lost a lot of weight, but I doubt he was 250 even in that old pic.
