I don't think Garrett likes him like he didn't like Bennett.

Fine. Claiborne's a Cowboy now and I hope he does well. If not, I won't come back here screaming "I told you so!" Well, maybe just a little. I just think our resources could have been better allocated.

Its going to be a great debate for awhile for sure.

From all indications Garrett did like Bennett he never cut his playing time and was always saying how valuable he was to the team.

He also was saying they would try and bring him back as free agent when everybody was saying he would not get a offer from the team.

Close. We lost a high pick and possibly Jenkins to boot, so unless Claiborne is twice the player Jenkins is (doubtful), you're merely running in quicksand.

Claiborne is carrying a much higher grade than Jenkins did coming out of school, in fact it isnt even close. Jenkins also has th shoulder thing as a major concern, and only 1yr left on his deal. Even in a best case scenario where Jenkins has a great 2012 (or simialr to his 2009 season, which was really good) we almost assuredly wont be able to resign him. We almost assuredly wont be in a position to draft a player with Claiborne's grade again for awhile either.

Claiborne is an excellent prospect, who'll be tied up into a long term deal at a fraction of the cost to keep Jenkins (or sign someone of similar ability)

Giants did not sacrifice a 2nd round pick to trade up for Paul

They didnt have to, they got lucky with him. He was a gifted prospect who has really panned out. It happens some, but more often than not it doesnt. the further down you draft, the less likely it is to get impact players.

Paul didnt carry a grade anywhere near what Claiborne's is.

Richardson no doubt had a higher grade than Murray or Felix. What the hell, let's draft him too.

We can throw 8.8 million at Spencer but not find a creative way to keep Jenkins? Nor is it a fait accompli that he'd be paid more than Carr.

And Jenkins was a cheap alternative compared to Newman. Got us nowhere. Sometimes the best laid plans ...

we didnt lose games because of our RB's, we did lose games because of our CB's and defense

they kept Spencer for 1 more yr because they didnt have anybody else...if we hadnt spent the early pick on Claiborne (or Gilmore/Kirkpatrick) then they wouldnt be contemplating a deal for Jenkins either...and they still might keep Jenkins

dont even get this comment

Newman, Scandrick and our atrocious safeties cost us games in 2011, not Jenkins, who had a fine bounceback year. Right area of concern; wrong target.

But Jenkins isnt here longterm now is he?

How likely were they to pour 45-50-60 million into Jenkins after just signing Carr to the deal he got?

I'm as big a Jenkins fan as there has been in these forums, I thought he played his ass off last yr and fought through some serious injury stuff. But Claiborne with his ability, tied up longterm for a much cap friendlier deal is smart. Other areas of theteam can be addressed with the savings, and we still have a player in place thats probably better.

almost everything you are saying is true BB..almost all of your points are valid..however, you are fooling yourself if you think there was even 1% chance that Jenkins was coming back next year..the writing has BEEN on the wall..hes a goner..

we absolutely did the smartest thing for the future of team...going into next year with a MASSIVE hole at CB AND possibly OLB would be horrendous..

maybe we should be looking at getting rid of scandrick instead of Jenkins

You mean no one wants his 5 years 27 million dollar contract

we have no other interior corner?

who is going to play the slot? Carr and Jenkins are left corners and claiborne will play the otherside.

Scandrick got payed because he is the nickel corner. Much like newman in 07 part of the reason he got a second contract here was because he was the interior corner

It was news to me. The second we drafted Claiborne, I said to myself "Where is he gonna play?" We all knew Newman was on the way out; not so Jenkins. The notion that he would be prohibitively expensive to keep never crossed my mind.

What year are you referring to? We weren't facing a big hole at CB in 2012. In terms of the future, there were other options, like trading down and drafting Kirkpatrick.

I could be wrong but I'm sure we could have found a nickel DB for 5 million a year

I'm not sure what all the love is for Scandrick. He is an average fooball player at best
