Gurode's been a really good player here douche bag, that isnt debatable.

If he's getting cut/traded, its because they feel just as good about the guy who'd replace him and it makes since from that standpoint.

Or better. And Gurode hasn't been real good since '07.

We're starting 3 rookies on the OL tonight, and Romo has got sacked once andf maybe hit one other time on 20+ attempts. They seems to be doing pretty darn good. Maybe the depth isnt as bad as people believe.

He's pointing out that our depth has been moved up to starters, and therefore the depth after them is pretty thin. Although Kowalski looks to be an adequate back up to Costa.

I doubt we have 3 rookies starting on opening day...1 or 2 of those guys are gonna be backups

Apparently the staff believes he's just as good if not better, dont you agree?

I don't buy that. I'd have to see it.

I'm not going to assume he's as good or better than Gurode because Jason or Jerry says so. This FO hasn't been the best at judging offesive line talent over the years.

The offensive line has so many question marks going into the season, I just don't see the advantage to throwing another question mark in there.

This makes so little sense dude, I'[m not sure its worth arguing about.

Why would they cut Gurode when they dont need the cap room, if they didnt feel like the guy they thought was his replacement was at least as good, if not better?

I don't see where it makes no sense.

1. The franchise has been sketchy at best for a long while now when it comes to their evaluation of offensive lineman.

2. I have no doubts that they only cut him if they think they have a player in Costa. I just don't think it's a move that needs to be made. It weakens an already thin line as it is. When it comes to offensive line, I don't trust their judgement.

They look pretty good at it lately. Got rid of Gurode, Davis, and Colombo, and brought in some nice, young players, not to mention aren't starting Holland.

Because they drafted Tyron Smith at #9?

I'm not ready to believe that we have the answer in Costa/Arkin/Nagy. I'll have to see it play out in order to believe that.

It makes no sense to pay a 32 yr old guy 5.5 mils to be a backup. If he isnt going to start, then you trade him or release him if he wont redo his contract.

They look pretty damn good so far. You might have to add the Kowalski kid too, he looked pretty good tonight even when going against the starters

I'm not sure on Arkin until he gains some sand in his pants, but Costa and Nagy look really good for where they are at in their stages of development. So no, not just because they drafted Smith at #9. And if you don't think those other 3 have shown potential, then you're pretty thick-headed.

Like I said, let's see where this goes when the real bullets start flying. I have my doubts. I don't the line being better tomorrow without Gurode along it.

Kowalski was rated as the second best Udfa on two separate scouting lists I read back in July...highly thought of guy should have been drafted.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Andre Gurode has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last five years, but he is not guaranteed a spot on the Dallas Cowboys' 53-man roster in 2011.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he would have a meeting with Gurode, who did not play Saturday night in Minnesota, and his agent, Kennard McGuire, on Sunday. Gurode declined to answer reporters questions as he left the field after the Cowboys' 23-17 win.
"It's a cap issue," Jones said. "And he's healthy. This is the time to talk about it. He's had good competition there. There's alternatives for us there so we're going to sit down and talk about and see what we might work out. It's not one thing disciplinary."
Gurode is scheduled to make $5.5 million this season and count $7.16 million against the cap. Should he be cut or traded, the Cowboys would save $5.5 million against the cap this year and have a $1.66 million charge in dead money in 2012.

"I will like to keep the details of my conversations private that we had with Jerry and Stephen (Jones)," McGuire said. "There are a few things that both sides are discussing."

Jones would not talk about possible trade discussions regarding Gurode.

Gurode made the trip to Minnesota, but Jones said the decision to sit the veteran was made before the team left Dallas. Gurode missed the first two weeks of training camp after undergoing surgery in June. He played last week against the San Diego Chargers.

The decision also speaks to how well second-year center Phil Costa has performed. Even after Gurode's return Costa continued to take snaps with the first team; however, he suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Wednesday and is expected to miss two-four weeks.

Jones said he expected Costa to be ready for the Sept. 11 season opener at the New York Jets.

"He got pushed," Jones said of Gurode's status related to Costa's play. "It's not getting pushed. He got pushed, so that's a positive for the team."

If Gurode, 32, is no longer with the Cowboys, then the team will make a 60 percent turnover on the line from 2010. The Cowboys cut Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo before training camp and are counting on rookies Tyron Smith (right tackle) and Bill Nagy (left guard) to start right away.

Jones said there is no consideration in bringing in veteran help should Gurode be cut. Undrafted rookie Kevin Kowalski will start at guard against the Vikings, but the Cowboys have several options that could play out by the opener if Costa is unable to return.

Nagy or Kyle Kosier could play center and Montrae Holland, who has missed most of camp with a back injury, could be inserted at guard. Nagy took snaps at center earlier in camp and Kosier was the backup center on game days on several occasions last year, though he never took a snap.

"Obviously we're still looking at what our options are here," Jones said. "We've got two games to look at them and two or three practices, but it shows these guys are playing well and (Costa) is deserving; Kowalski's deserving of this opportunity. I think this is going to be good for our football team."
