That scares me even more that they think he's better than Gurode. He isn't. That's not really at question. They may not think he's $5.5 million worse than Gurode, though.

He plays two positions and he was great in the breakdowns on film......Saying he isnt as good as gurode is false. The fact is phil costa right now may be much better than the current andre gurode.

I am sorry but its simply something fans can not evaluate correctly because it is almost impossible to explain what the 5 linemans roles are on each player.

oh and babe just said choice is playing for a roster spot tonight.

Man, am I clueless tonight.

Even so, why cut Gurode or deal him for a 7th rounder?

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Our line has been terrible the last few years. Gurode can do his job without worry. I'm sitting here worried to death about RG and the FO is trying to cut a probowl caliber player at C.

Doesn't seem smart, imo.

I don't question starting Costa. I question dealing depth away at the position. This is why I think it must be a good deal. Mebbe Gurode for a quality corner.

sounds more like they told him costa is the starter and he is too expensive to be a backup. So they are going to ask him to take a smaller salary in week 2 and cut him now or he will be traded for whatever they can get for him.

The HC is doing this, not Jones.

To me, it doesn't matter who's doing it. It doesn't strike me as a smart move.

And I agree, this doesn't doesn't strike me as a move that would have been made in the last few years. Must be Garrett pushing for it.

That's IF what's going on is what's being speculated on.

At any rate, it's not great timing, Costa out and the third preseason game about to start. Run tony run.

Gurode Pulled For Saturday's Game In Minnesota
Gurode Pulled For Saturday's Game In Minnesota

Apparently, the injury to Phil Costa that will keep him out 2-4 weeks is more of an issue than it initially seemed. That is because veteran center Andre Gurode will not be in the lineup Saturday night against the Vikings, despite it being the dress rehearsal to the regular season.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said the club is holding out Gurode because of a “business decision,” likely meaning his future with the team is in jeopardy. The Cowboys could be looking at possible trade opportunities for Gurode and don’t want to risk an injury.

"He got pushed," Jerry Jones said, an indication that Costa had already won the preseason competition with Gurode, who missed the first two weeks of camp following a June knee surgery.

Rookie free agent Kevin Kowalski will start against the Vikings with Costa out with a sprained PCL. Jones expressed confidence that Costa would be healthy in time for the regular season opener at the New York Jets on Sept. 11.

The Cowboys will get an extended look at Kowalski, but could end up sliding Bill Nagy to center later in Saturday's preseason game. Nagy will start at left guard, but the Cowboys have some guard options in David Arkin and Montrae Holland.

Gurode, a five-time Pro Bowler who was ranked 57th in the NFL Network’s Top 100 list voted on by the players, is the longest-tenured Cowboy, a second-round pick in the 2002 draft.

How is playing the better player not a smart move?

This is the kind of crap most of you bash the organization for every year, holding onto older guys or overpaying older guys instead of being more like Pittsburgh, New England, Philly etc etc.

These are the kinds of moves good organizations do.

So, what are we left with for depth? Especially if Holland follows Gurode out the door, then all of a sudden a unit I felt pretty good about a week ago is looking shaky as hell. I like playing the better player (although I have SERIOUS doubts about Costa being anywhere near Gurode's level), but man...these starters had better hold up.

You were all defending Gurode, but now it's all, "well it must be so because the Cowboys did it!" lol

Gurode's been a really good player here douche bag, that isnt debatable.

If he's getting cut/traded, its because they feel just as good about the guy who'd replace him and it makes since from that standpoint.

We're starting 3 rookies on the OL tonight, and Romo has got sacked once andf maybe hit one other time on 20+ attempts. They seems to be doing pretty darn good. Maybe the depth isnt as bad as people believe.
