Sources tell me #Cowboys intend to re-sign Anthony Spencer if possible, not to franchise-tag him. @1053thefan

I really don't know what to make of this.

This seems like a move that smart teams don't make.

He played well last year. I'll have to see the #s.

However this team can't evaluate talent and overrates their own

How's it a mistake?

If Marinelli and Kiffin are looking at his tape and saying "we need this guy out there" and "he fits what we want to do" then its the right move.

I wouldnt break the bank to do it, but if they firmly believe he can play the LDE spot and be productive, then they should definitely re-sign him. otherwise its just another hole that has to be filled either via free agency, draft or from within.

How's it a mistake?

Because he's an inconsistent 30 year old pass rusher who is going to ask for the world on what is probably going to be his final contract. because his rep since he's been in the league is that he's someone whose ass you have to stay on to get production out of him. Because our cap situation already sucks, and it's not going to get better with contracts like this. Because we need to give Sean Lee and Dez Bryant new contracts soon.

The fuck are you talking about how is it a mistake?

He's only 29 and will be until next January

However, initially, I'm not a big fan of this move. Need to see #s though

And most importantly he plays on the strong side.

We should be able to platoon that spot or find a mid level free agent for much cheaper.

giving weak side big time money to spencer is a terrible decision.

Let him go get overpaid somewhere else.

Of course he'll be resigned. Jerry has to look like he can hit on first rounders. He'll cross that bridge when he looks like a fool for re-signing him later on. In the meantime, we'll be in the headlines for locking up a good but underachieving pass rusher that we drafted.

The only way this is right is if we Von Miller him. Then our front seven is pretty much set and we can spend draft picks on safeties and offensive linemen.

Well sorry, disagree. Marinelli and Kiffin know better than you putzes about who fits their scheme.

Doesnt mean they sign him at all cost, but if its something within reason and they think he can play there, then so be it.

That's what I'm saying... We're all just assuming he's gonna get paid a lot. Nobody really knows what his value is set at.

If we can bring him back on a good deal I'm all for it.

I always felt spencer would be better in a 43. I'd love to see what one of the better dline coaches in the league can do with him.

I wouldn't do a deal that would keep us from resigning future younger and more important free agents tho.

oh good we've got the david now where noone can question any decisions the FO/coaching staff make.

How else are we going to stay in the headlines following two 8-8 seasons and no cap room?
