In most cases its because believers are emotionally stunted.
This infantile outlook on life stuntsthehuman condition.

I love when these come out. Just can't help it. The non-believers would like us to believe they are so enlightened and above it all. But just can't help throwing out the barbs to try and convince themselves that what they shout is true.

The idea that the only reason Christians aren't out there raping everyone is because they think they'll have to answer for it someday is one of the most reprehensible ideas ever. Why not do the right thing because its right - not for hope of reward or fear of reprisal?

In most cases its because believers are emotionally stunted. They've never grown up to the point where we're all accountable for what we do in the here and now, they're still overly concerned with what an imaginary bogeymanthinks. See: typical believers thoughts on climate change. One senator went so far as to say we shouldn't be worried about it because god won't let us destroy the earth. What a joke!!!

This infantile outlook on life stuntsthehuman condition.

I'm sure it is a disturbing idea, but I'm not sure why you're bringing it to the discussion. Obviously Dez is talking about death and the fear of it; you only fear a thing based on consequence. If you can, define the logic of one's fear of death based on no consequence and further on some one foolish enough to create an idea far more troubling than simply not existing.

Because people would rather be alive than not alive. The rest is all about control. This ain't rocket surgery.

The preference for one thing over the other doesn't really result in a fearful need to create stories to make one feel better about his choice. You're right it's not - what the hell is 'rocket surgery'?

It's cool because he doesn't know the truth any more than you or I do. He just feels like if he yells his opinion the loudest it makes him more right. It's asinine, but he has to throw out barbs to keep himself convinced of his absolute ignorance.

Um in some cases yes it does. Mankind used to not have any idea how anything worked. So we made up stories. Hello anthropology, this is phone.

Explain what truth I'm espousing, nitwit.

It's usually the atheists that are slinging the most shit. The ones that claim to KNOW what is right. They have the answers. Agnostics will state their position and for the most part, leave it at that. Funny how that works. Kind of like my youngest kid. She too thinks that if she screams the loudest and throws the biggest fit it will make her right.

And you have anthropological evidence for this theory?

See:all of history. Christians weren't the first terrified cave dwellers to make up a pretty story. In fact almostall their stuff is ripped off other, older legends. Nothing special there.

:lol Yeah, that's what I'd thought.

The people who didn't know how anything worked managed to invent embalming by understanding human anatomy, but the fear of dying led them to calming stories of gods, God and higher powers that hold humans accountable to them.

Very scientific theory you're functioning under.

There's nothing scientific about legends. There's nothing about greek gods that is particularly appealing to the human condition but we invented them anyway. You might as well ask why we made up Santa, if your infantile "why would man make stories that endwith them being judged?" theory wasn't so dumb.

The stories are invented to control other people. This ain't rocket surgery.

Actually, we still make up stories. Our lives are pretty much defined by the narrative paradigms we create, whether it's a religious narrative or the rational world narrative. One generation's stories are another generation's explanations. That's part of anthropology.

Or more accurately

The stories are created first as possible explanations for unexplained natural phenomena...

...then as control, once a particular class realizes that if god won't show up and speak, they can speak FOR him, and people will accept it as long as they are afraid. And if there's one thing weak minded people go crazy for...its being terrified.

There is nothing scientific about faith either, but if you're going to claim anthropological science, you should probably be more specific.

No one lives lives by Greek mythology. No one puts themselves in harms way to propagate a Santa doctrine. Similarly, no one has been changed or benefitted beyond an entertainment perspective by those things. Apostles weren't murdered for telling compelling tales, they were transforming societies.

Conflating entertainment with ideology doesn't work.

Every religion has its martyrs. whoop dee do. Eventually noone will live by Christian mythology either. To argue otherwise is to show a complete ignorance of history, and the scene of the world today.
