Report: Redskins to spend big in free agency

Report: Redskins to spend big in free agency

Citing people inside the organization, the Washington Post reports that the Redskins have "money to spend" and are "champing at the bit" to use it in unrestricted free agency.
Some of the top free agent names linked to Washington are CB Nnamdi Asomugha and DE Corey Williams, as well as QB Vince Young after he's released. The Redskins, of course, have a long history of big free agent spending under owner Dan Snyder, although new GM Bruce Allen was supposed to scale that back. After an impressive, rebuilding-heavy draft, it sounds like Allen and Mike Shanahan still have designs on winning now.

Jackson can't even effectively run a complete route tree.

You put a quick corner on him, or have a corner jam him at the line, and give safety over the top help, and his statline is a flatline.

Good god. Best WR in the division? Laughable. Completely.

I don't care what some suckass writers think about who is the best. I think Nicks or even Smith when he is healthy are at the top. Dez hasn't proved shit and the jury is still out on another who disappears in games, Austin.

Jackson? maybe 3rd, maybe.

I'd love for the Skins to pick up Young (or any free agent QB from this crop, for that matter). I'd also love for them to roll with Grossman. Hell, I'd love it if McNabb stuck around. Who's their 3rd stringer? Damn, that team is a mess...they almost have to spend big in free agency.

I have to thank the Redskins and Snyder, though. Their complete and utter crappiness has made being a Cowboy fan tolerable over the last decade.

Snyder is clueless. He makes these mistakes every year, and the team pays the price for the future.

Haynesworth is a prime example.

Should we pretend he sucks now or wait until they sign him?

What has Cullen Jenkins done to warrant all this hype? Seriously. Oh I know! He had 7 sacks in 11 games last season. Which to me appears to be a combination of being in Capers' system and him being in his contract year. Take a look at his previous seasons. Now he will be older and is looking for a payday. If people are expecting the same production from Cullen as last season in terms of sacks, thenthey are fools.

Nobody says he sucks, but I don't want him. I just do not think that he will be a difference maker for what he is looking to take in salary-wise.

I don't think the player sucks.

I just don't want him based on age and his likely contract demands.

Let the Redskins hand him a 20 mil plus contract.

We are starting to sound very Zone-like in this thread...

Free agents we sign equals good, quality players
Free agents other teams sign equal overpaid bums

So 30 is now the cutoff age at which you should never sign a free agent?

I think it's widely regarded as a smart practice to generally avoid signing older guys to big money contracts.

You want your high contracts to be players ascending towards the prime of their career. No players on the decline.

Not me. I wouldn't be a fan of this signing at all.

Well.... I'd have to see the contract #'s. If it's a very reasonable deal, then I would.

But you're not going to sign a 7 sack DE to a reasonable deal, especially if the Redskins are involved.

It is if the players has been a marginal player for much of his career and then shines in his last year and now wants a big pay day.

Wouldn't it have been a better draft for the Redskins if they had taken Cameron Jordan in the 1st and then Brooks Reed in the 2nd, instead of Kerrigan in the 1st and Jenkins in the 2nd? Perhaps then they wouldn't be needing to pursue Cullen Jenkins.
