Redskins hold a player-organized practice

After the strikes of 1982 and 1987, the Washington Redskins capped each season with a Super Bowl title. Coach Joe Gibbs attributed the success to the willingness of the players to work together during the work stoppage.
It’s fitting, then, that the Redskins are the first team during the 2011 lockout to practice together.
NBCWashington.com reports that linebacker London Fletcher organized a practice session, which included on-field drills and pass routes and 6-on-6 sessions in the rain. A total of 26 players attended. Participants included quarterback Rex Grossman, tight end Chris Cooley, and linebacker Brian Orakpo.
“I think the thing that we stress and emphasize to the guys is that we’re not going out here 100 miles an hour trying to compete at the highest level,” Fletcher said. “It’s really just about doing football, getting guys out, doing football related type stuff, but being smart and understanding protect your teammates.”
Some players and agents believe that any competitive scenarios should be avoided during lockout practices, given the increased risk of injury.
