So in other words Jerry makes the final decisions on everything involving the roster.
When Jerry goes down on the sidelines he's pretty much undermining his head coach.

Having him go down to the sidelines is a problem and we'll never have a legitimate head coach in here again until Jerry kicks the bucket.

That's what it basically boils down to. Kind of makes me doubt the whole, "noone will be on this roster without Garrett saying so", bit. But even if that part were true, it's ridiculous to only do it half-way. Either Garrett has complete control on the going ons of the roster, or he doesn't. You can't split it in half.

That may be true if it were an excruciating, season ending injury. But Romo was able to go back onto the field shortly after that conversation. Not the same...at all.

Alot of players have major injuries and come back on the field. Doesnt mean they are fine.

Still think some of you are giving far too much "credit" for Jones' role here. He's a defacto GM, he has the title because of his ego but from the day he hired Parcells, I dont think he's had anywhere near the role he might have had from 94-02 regarding the day to day running of the team, personnel and draft decisons etc etc.

He desperately wants others to think he has a major role, but at the end of the day Jones' main motivation has always been turning the Cowboys into the most profitable franchise in sports. And he knows that if the Cowboys are perennial losers, he has no chance at that. He needs them to win to maximize his investment.

I'm not saying he deserves no blame. He certainly deserves his fair share. He's made several boneheaded coaching hires over the years and he stayed with Wade longer than he should have. But in terms of who is on the roster and who isnt, I think his role is very minimal.

Don't they have trainers for that? Trainers don't talk to the position coaches, assistant coaches and head coaches about that?

My point is that only when players don't come back onto the field due to injury, because the rest of their season is gone, is where you might be able to find any example of an owner doing what Jerry did. I so far have seen 0 examples of such.

Jerry went down there to tell Garrett not to risk further injury to Romo's swollen hand. He basically nullified Garrett's authority to run his roster, even if just for a moment. Which is wrong and why it's a big deal.

He quickly stopped walking on eggshells and resorted to his old ways the day Parcells left too. He may not be quite as bad as he was from 94-02, but he definitely didn't turn the keys over to Wade or Garrett like he did with Jimmy and BP.

Interesting too that you take the same position on this as Hostile. hmm...

no thanks...but it is true. I read the exact same viewpoint from him recently.

I dont care what his views are on it. There's probably alot of people who feel that way.

Doesnt matter to me, my opinions are what they are. Mine.

I think the biggest homers have convinced themselves that Jerry is not a major problem bc it's really the only way they can remain sane. It's clear that Jerry isn't going anywhere for a few more years, so if you're like a crazy diehard homer, then you'd either have no choice but to jump on board, or go crazy and attempt to murder him.

I used to be a Jerry defender.

The best defense I could come up with was that at least he wasn't Al Davis or Dan Snyder....

So yeah, I gave up. I'm now wishing he was dead, like many of you.

I've read a lot of that defacto GM bullshit over the last two years.

Was there a write up on it at one point? I'd be interested to see where that stuff came from.

I mean, I know Hostile started preaching it, that there should tell you something.

Great post, dbair. It's funny how some of these other guys call themselves a fan of the team, but chose to berate Jerry rather than love him. If we were together in person, instead of on an internet message board, I'd give you a high five and a blowjob for this post.
