How exactly was he meddling though? If he went down there to do what he said (give Garrett up to date info on Romo's injury and the result of the Giants/Jets game) then what was he "meddling" with exactly?

Jerry doesn't trust the HC to make this decision. Why not? And if he doesn't trust him on this and has to intervene, then how many other things is he not trusting him on and intervening about?

We'd all be having a field day with this if it were Danny Snyder going down to the field to chat with Shanny and later being quoted that Shanny didn't need to make the decision by himself. But it's interesting that since it's Jerry there are still many who continue to bendover backwards to defend him.

The Deion stuff was brought up to illustrate how important it is for a coach to be viewed as the ultimate authority on a football team.

I know why it was briught up, but it isnt really relavent any longer because nothing like that is going on there, and hasnt since the day they hired Parcells.

I care. Jerry's meddling and undermining the HC's authority has been an issue in the past and it's obvious it's still happening with Garrett. I'm sure if he feels the need to go down to the field and consult with Garrett about this during a game it isn't the only time or issue he has interfered. One it shows he doesn't trust the HC in charge to make the proper decisions. Two it shows the players that the HC doesn't have the full authority regarding issues and therefore plays a part in undermining him.

Yup. My hope when Jason was hired that he would be a strong enough personality to keep Jerry Jones in check. That has not happened. Once you let Jerry do that to you, it’s too late. Damage is done. No going back. Once again, there is a reason this franchise has been pathetic for 16 seasons now.

You don't think Jerry undermining the head coach's authority would have an effect on the team?

Ask Troy Aikman how signing Deion affected the team in the long run. He's discussed in the past how coaches would tell Deion what to do, but plenty of times, Deion wouldn't do it. When threatened, he'd (Deion) say he was going to go talk to Jerry.

Both instances have the same effect. The head coach needs to be respected and feared. If the owners shows an obvious lack of trust in his coach, then why would the players trust their coach.

Players performance is strongly tied to practice habits and effort. Players practice habits and effort are tied to their response to the coaches.

You're being naive if you don't think Jerry's actions don't negatively affect this team on some level.

I think as people and players you either have pride or you don't. You either have skill or you don't. I just can't draw a line from Jerry's meddling to anyone playing better or preparing worse or differently or whatever. I think our defense would suck right now regardless of Jerry's involvement. We just have players who aren't very good who can't grasp the scheme they're playing in or are using that as an excuse for their own incompetence. I don't see anything Jerry does or doesn't do as factoring into that at all.

Undermining authority.

A player being able to circumvent his coaches and talk directly with the ownder undermines authority of said coach.

An owner going down onto the sideline, during a game, to tell his coach to not put the starting QB back into the game undermines authority.

So in other words Jerry makes the final decisions on everything involving the roster.

When Jerry goes down on the sidelines he's pretty much undermining his head coach.

Having him go down to the sidelines is a problem and we'll never have a legitimate head coach in here again until Jerry kicks the bucket.

Then we'll agree to disagree.

I guess it's just an amazing coincidence that no matter the coach, no matter the variation of the scheme, no matter the players... the results are always the same.

The fact that Jerry and the culture he's instilled in Dallas is in no way shape or form related to performance at all.

According to Romo though, this isnt what happened.

It was routinely mentioned in the 90's after Jimmy left. There hasnt been a peep about anything like that since the day Campo was fired.

Jerry claims he's doing the same things now he's always done. If true, then this would include having the star players come directly to him and circumventing the HC.

So, I take it you think Jerry is full of shat?

Except of course when it wasn't, and we had Jimmy and the most talented roster in the league and one of the most dominant teams ever.

I just think people are drawing a correlation where there is none.

Jerry's just not that damn important when it comes to the product on the field. Maybe he hired bad people or terrible talent evaluators and by all means kill him for that but this....come on man.

Did he say HE DECIDED ROMO WOULD NOT PLAY? If so, where does it say that at.

I just re-read the article you posted word for word, and it does not say that. In fact it says "That is Jason's decision"

Jerry said:

"So I wanted to, very briefly, step down there with just a few minutes gone in the first quarter, sit there and say, 'Here’s the lay of the land. Romo’s got a hand injury, but it looks like we’re going to have him for New York. Felix is there. You make the decision, but our emphasis should be on New York.'"

It's laughable that you can read the above, and not understand that that is Jerry telling Jason not to put Romo back in. Really.

Carry on though...

Which happened to be at the beginning of his ownership, when Jerry was busier with the financial side of the organization than the on-filed product. But towards the end he did start meddling more and ultimately it led to running Jimmy off.

I just think people are drawing a correlation where there is none.

I think certain people want to act like this type of thing isn't a factor because they don't want to admit to themselves that the same crap is going on currently as it did under Gailey, Switzer, Campo and Wade's tenure's. Let's just downplay it and act like everything is OK now.

See also: making shit up and pretending it's reality. You have no idea whether Jerry is any more or less involved than he was when we were winning super bowls.

Jerry said so himself in interviews early in his ownership that he was more involved in the business side of the organization in those early years.

But I see all you can resort to is acting like we don't know so it must've been the same way then as now. Just like the ignorant, I don't see how meddling affects the team.

If willful ignorance is the best you can do, then good luck with it.
