I think there has to be some distinction between the players Jerry wants on this club and the subsequent contracts that Stephen Jones has to negotiate in order to fit those players within the team's pay structure. If Jerry wants Marian Barber to be resigned... Then he gets resigned. Should Stephen Jones be penalized for who Jerry wants on the club?

I still have hope that Stephen does some things differently than Jerry, after Jerry turns over the power. But painting him (SJ) with the same brush as we paint Jerry Jones probably isn't fair at this juncture without some kind of proof that both need to be painted with the same brush.

Ah, that's right. It's Jerry making Stephen do these things. And once he's gone, profit!

Foam fingered flitboys.

My proof is the results.

See, I'm talking about what's actually happening. Not some ridiculous theory as to why it's happening.

He's the pretend director of personnel and the cap man. We've had serious talent issues during his entire tenure and our cap shape is the worst in the league.

So....why again am I supposed to think Stephen Jones deserves to be praised?

The way I see it, he's as big of a bum as his father.

I don't take a pessimistic view on all things Cowboys. I take a realistic view of it.

Open your eyes. This is the worst era of Cowboys football in it's history. If you haven't been more pessimistic over the last 16 years, you've been wrong.

I'm simply stating facts. We have a roster full of holes, we're a 6 win team and we carry the league's highest payroll.

And I'm supposed to think highly of our cap guru?

Hardly.

Prior to this team's disappointing 6-10, it had 5 straight winning seasons and an overall record of 51-29. That's not shabby, nor does it come without a price. Those players that contributed to that record were going to be compensated. Call it a Jerry weakness, but he is too dedicated to his players. And again, if he wants a guy resigned like Newman, then Stephen Jones resigns him. It's no more complicated than that. But a team that has five winning seasons is going to be more likely to have a higher cap figure. That only makes sense.

This team had 5 straight winning seasons. You type like it had 14 wins total over 5 years and the talent cupboard was totally bare.

You over react way too much.

Thank you, Bill. For coming in here and cleaning up the mess.

The mess Jerry, and his bastard son created.

Did we win something when I wasn't looking?

How come superior teams like the Patriots, Eagles, Ravens, Giants, Steelers etc. aren't in the shape we're in?

How'd they luck out without having the league's greatest cap man around?

No. You've just become a mindless homer, Mike.

Over the last 16 years, the Cowboys have been a bottom 5 franchise in the NFL. You homers want to keep lowering the bar to make Jerry palatable. F that. We've been the Cincinnati Bengals for 16 years. Only Bill Parcells has saved us from worse.

I'll never bow to the masses. When we're good, I'll say so. When the guy running the team is excellent, I'll say that. Right now we have the same problem we've had for nearly two decades. Jerry and Stephen. They're bums. They've proven it time and time again over the years. I'm simply calling a spade a spade.

The Stephen love started when fans couldn't defend Jerry anymore. So they created this notion that Stephen, the obvious next in charge, was really really smart and boy are we gonna be lucky to have him some day.

I've waited for years to see evidence of this quality. I've seen nothing yet. The fact that our team is needy and our payroll is so high is a serious indictment on his ability to manage a cap.

Again, if Jerry wants to retain a player.

That player is retained.

It doesn't matter who negotiates the contract at that point.

And you know what?

There may not even be a cap in 2011.

All of this could be one giant mute point.

Just something to consider. :smug

Well, when Jerry hangs'em up in another 20 years, and Stephen gets a chance to take over, then maybe you'll get to see something.

Don't worry, those 20 years will go quickly I'm sure. :)

There will be a cap in the new CBA and the Cowboys are in the worst shape to handle it. That's not pessimism. It's realism.

That's right. Jerry is making Stephen a bad cap guy.

Okay. But then how do you know that? And if you don't know that, then why do you have any reason to believe he's any good at his job? You should be neutral, if anything.

What's that? Because you want to believe it?

And the truth....shall set you free.

Bum. It runs in the family.

That's where the comparisons end though. He's witty and his arguments make sense.

That's right. Saying the Cowboys have been awful the last 16 years and pessimistic has been realistic makes no sense.

Go yourself.

It's cute how you think that your opinions somehow set the bar on what is being realistic.

I'm not offering an opinion.

The Cowboys being one of the worst teams in the NFL over the last 16 years isn't an opinion.

I wouldn't say one of the worst. Average probably.

With the tradition that has been set, it makes it that much worse though.

I didn't ask what you would say.

I'm stating a fact. The Cowboys, over the last 16 years, are one of the worst teams in the NFL. They've had less success than almost every team in the league.

Fact.

Here's another fact - The Cowboys have the highest payroll in football.

I'm not making this up.

One of the worst teams since 1994, eh? Let's say since 1995 with the addition of the Panthers and Jaguars:

134 wins -- 122 losses.

Yeah, I think there are at least 14-16 teams that have done worse in that span.

Average. You suck.
