Free agency could begin as early as 11:01 a.m. (CT) Saturday, according to a story on Pro Football Talk. If U.S. District Judge David Doty rules that the league has to keep its doors open, then player movement, including trades, could begin. But don't expect the Cowboys to be players.
True, they could use a safety, and there likely are other players out there who would be enticing to the Cowboys. But Dallas already has an NFL-high $137.4 million committed toward the 2011 salary cap. The Cowboys are expected to have to cut players and/or restructure contracts before making any moves.
So don't expect them to rush out and make a splash -- which Jerry Jones is known to do -- by signing a big-name free agent like Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
On the other hand, they could lose some of their own free agents. Defensive end Marcus Spears, a former first-round pick, is expected to leave in free agency, and safety Gerald Sensabugh is going to test the market.
