The ones who argue the most vehemently are usually the ones who are wrong... exhibit A.

that isn't an expression that's just something you made up.

In this case I'm absolutely right. Even the Huff example has been smashed.

no. And do me the courtesy of not setting up oversimplistic strawmen so you can smack them down, hosswat.
It's not a strawman. It's a restatement of what you said. You said maybe we sign Grubbs but for the penalty. If we had more cap space... you know to the point we could have signed Grubbs despite the penalty... then you might not be saying "maybe." You said we had to pick which was the more pressing need. Surprise, that's what all teams who don't have the cap space to fill all their holes in the offseason say. They never say they didn't have the cap space.

We may have had an interest, but he was a top guy, we went in another direction that was an equally high need.
Exactly. You can go both directions if you have cap space.

No teams can sign every top FA every season. So you can't argue that our inability to do so is outside the norm.
Talk about strawman.

GUYZ POINT OUT WHERE TEH TEEM CAN'T SIGN FREE AGENTZZ THEY WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111!!!!!!

Jake Long.

WELL NO ONEZ CAN SIGN EVERYONEZ!!!

We operate how every team in the league operates. Our cap situation has yet to bite us.

Nonsense, and this just belies you people's intentional ignorance of standard operating procedure in the NFL. Noone has that sort of cash lying around where they can just sign the top two FAs at a position of need every offseason. There's never been a more appropriate audience for the "THIS AINT MADDEN" gif than the people on this forum bitching about cap hell. Complete lack of understanding.

Big bright colors for our mental midget.

Dallas has one playoff win in the last 18 years playing the extending contracts game. Pittsburgh at least has three Super Bowl appearances during that time frame so it makes more sense for them to continue playing the game.

Bigger brighter colors for you.

thanks boozefuckwad we've already covered that cap management doesn't always correlate to wins on the field. That does not however mean you are in cap hell - for instance the Browns and Eagles manage their cap more along the way the economic retards in this forum would like, but they don't win shit. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with their cap management techniques, however.

Feel free to participate when you can wrap your tiny brain around that and separate the issues.

we had Allen and Durant in on Monday the 25th.
Huff came in on Tuesday the 26th. Later that day him and his agent reveal that yo guys the cowboys really want me but I can't make any promises if they don't have cap space.

Wednesday the 27th we sign Durant and Allen. I believe later that day Huff signs with Baltimore. It's obvious we wanted him BAD but he just couldn't wait around for us to clear the cap space that we'd already cleared before he signed with bmore.

Wrong again.

What a suprise.

Veteran safety Michael Huff will visit the Dallas Cowboys at Valley Ranch on Monday, according to a source.

Huff, an Irving, Texas native who played at the University of Texas, finished the 2012 season with two interceptions and a team-leading 15 pass break-ups for the Oakland Raiders. Huff was released by the Raiders last week.

The Cowboys are also bringing in safety Will Allen and linebacker Justin Durant on Monday.

Signing any of these players won't occur immediately. The Cowboys are just $102,000 under the salary cap and would need to restructure some contracts to make room for any free-agent signings.[/B] The Cowboys will get $2 million in savings this summer thanks to the release of defensive end Marcus Spears because he was designated as a post-June 1 cut. The team could gain an additional savings of $7 million if it lets tackle Doug Free go as a post-June 1 cut.

Ravens agree to three-year, $6 million deal with safety Michael Huff

March 27, 2013|By Jeff Zrebiec, The Baltimore Sun

...................... He received steady interest around the league and took a visit to the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, but they did not have the salary cap room to sign him. A day later, he agreed to terms with the Ravens.

Justin Durant, Will Allen sign deals

IRVING, Texas -- With precious little salary-cap space at the start of the day, the Dallas Cowboys restructured the contract of quarterback Kyle Orton and released wide receiver Anthony Armstrong in order to sign linebacker Justin Durant and safety Will Allen.

The Orton and Armstrong moves freed up roughly $1 million of space for the Cowboys, who were $102,005 under the cap at the beginning of the day. Durant received a two-year deal, and Allen received a one-year deal.

The Cowboys now have less than $25,000 in salary-cap space after the signings.

We wanted Huff. Didn't have the cap room for him.

We had to settle for Durant and Allen after restructuring Orton and releasing Armstrong, which still only put us a mil under the cap, and we were able to sign them for approx vet minimum deals, whereas Huff was able to get 6 mil for 3 years.

Nice try though.

We have space - we show year after year that we can sign whoever we want - explain our bad position. Be specific. How exactly is our cap situation hurting us? What players have we missed out on because we couldn't afford them? What players have left our team because we didn't have the space to re-sign them?

I'd rather we not go out and sign players.

I'm just worried about the dead money for players who are no longer here, or suck.

I don't know the specifics of that one though.

Good lord. You are intentionally distorting every argument that comes your way. You have to do that to keep on trolling.

No one is saying we have to sign two top FAs at need positions every offseason. Literally. No one.

You said yourself we may have been able to sign Grubbs but for the cap penalty. It only follows that if we weren't so cap strung we could have signed him even with the cap penalty.

How you turned that in to we have to sign two top FAs every year to be contenders is just baffling. You've let all the political arguing with the mouth breathers affect your skills arguing football.

I agree. Again something every team has to deal with. For instance just before last season I believe the Colts led the league in dead money contracts. A one year purge and rebuild later and they're in good shape though. So even that isn't so terrible.

I wish we would do that here since we aren't competing for a championship anytime soon.

Scratch that, it would be a waste anyways, because we'd be wasting Tony Romo et al.

Should have started the roster purge years ago, but of course that word is taboo around Valley Ranch.

And if my aunt had frog legs she'd be Ernie Zampese.

The penalty was there. Discount it all you want but the possibility exists if it hadn't been there, we'd have signed Grubbs. Or maybe he was too expensive regardless, and we didn't want to spend that cash on a low impact position.

We're active in free agency, and we don't lose our own young players that we want to keep in house.

If we were in "cap hell" we'd be doing the opposite.

As long as Romo's here we have to keep kicking the can down the road. You'll see the same thing with every team with a big money QB. Without exception. For better or worse, that's how it works. Time for people to stop pretending we're doing something out of the norm here despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.

I'd like to see all this spending actually produce wins in the playoffs.

<-------------1 playoff win in 17 years is FUCKING RIDICULOUS.
