True dat. My apologies, Everlasting.

I love religious debates. I was trying to get involved but the dude is ignoring me. Ole wells, i just have to wait for the Jehovah Witnesses to knock on my door.

Edit: The burden of proof always falls on the ones making the claim. You guys don’t seem to get that.

But it flies right in the face of what you are trying to get across. That the bible is dumb and people that believe in it are dumb.

True, but that's not what I was trying to get across, and if you had actually read any of my lengthy responses or attempted to comprehend them you would have realized that. Alot of that going around. Here's some cliffnotes for your skimming enjoyment;

skidadl: There's no (or very few) real Christians anymore. The Christianity you see is a bastardization

superpunk: There's no such thing as real Christians. Just people reading the same shit and coming to different conclusions. Yours isn't better than anyone else's.

skidadl: The rapture isn't in the bible.

superpunk: wtf?

IAMTDG: YOU OWNED HIM, SKIDADL!

I do, too, until I run into people like SP whose mind is so focused on his own beliefs that he completely shuts out any other belief as being stupid or retarded.

I mean, everyone knows no one is going to "convince" any one else that they're right, but you don't have to be a self-righteous prick in a debate just to make yourself look like you have "stronger" beliefs than someone else.

See, that's where (in my mind) you are off the boat. You don't know that. You may think that, but that doesn't make it so. Oh, I know YOU think it makes it so, but it doesn't.

And then you try to insinuate someone else is trying to mount your high horse before you can.

Doesn't add up, amigo.

Feel free to outline how to identify True Christians, then. So far (if this thread is correct) we can throw out all the retards who believe in the rapture. Who else is going on the pile?

Everlasting, I'm not ignoring you, ese. I am now sitting on a jobsite in my iPhone. Lil tough but I'd be glad to talk about any of it.

SP, there are many problems with what you are saying. Just try your best to not put worse into my mouth and we can have a cool talk.

First, I didnt say there aren't any real Christians anymore. So ease up there.

Secondly, theologians aren't debating the things practiced in the American, popular church right now. Its like you want to dabble in debating the bible without having to debate the bible. Currently the popular churches are missing the point. That's easy to prove with scripture. Almost everyone knows that. It's a pretty prevelant conversation going on right now in the church. I'm not taking some wildly unique stance on this issues. Take a walk down the church leadership row in the bookstore. Attend a summit or ecumenical round table and you will see leaders everywhere questioning where we have gone wrong and got off track. Right now the dog is waging the tail. Not a lot of people are denying that. It's proven by the fact that the church has become more and more like everyone else. It's a little hard to not see that the American has lost its effect and impact on the world around it more now than ever. You think I am taking some outlandish stance?

You are debating in circles and making claims that are just not true.

I appreciate the effort but you don't have any idea what you are saying. You are jumping in a discussision that you have very little experience with. Please don't predend that you do.

It was actually an interesting read.

Like others have pointed out, nobody is going to moved from their beliefs, but it was still interesting.

Making leaps like that makes you look dumb.

Skidadl, i just want to know your other views like an eternal hell and the sovereignty of god. Do you believe the bible is perfect = no errors? Do you believe the earth is 10 thousand years old? Who was at the tomb of Jesus? Can you put all those event in chronological order?

I am about to go inside of Home Depot for little while. I want to answer your questions. Could you better describe what you mean by sovereignty? There could be a few things that you're referring to and I just want to make sure that I know what you want to know about.

Noone wants to be told how to live their life. If the church tried to play it your way and shout down premarital sex and recreational drug use they'd have no congregation. They had to get with the times or become insolvent. Is that the right word? Do they have debts? Anyhow...go broke. That didn't start in America Europe is even more....tolerant? And they're losing members even faster. The reality is the church and religion in general has outlived it's usefulness, and is subsequently losing membership, so they try to change to keep up with the times...but it's tough to make people want to do things on Sunday morning.

But they are within their rights. Let's take a hotbutton issue - the gays and whether they can marry. The hardcore Christian will say no, and he will cite all sorts of biblical hate speech that decries man lying with man and how they won't inherit God's kingdom. The moderate Christian might say yeah the bible says all that but who am I to judge, I'm not perfect. The liberal Christian will take Christ's message of all inclusive love and declare that noone should be left out or discriminated against. So who is right? Shall we have a battle of proof texts where the liberals are citing Jesus nonstop and maybe even citing the Greek to promote the point that men lying with men did not actually refer to homosexuality itself but something different while the hardcore's go apeshit on the Old Testament? Who's gonna sit back and judge that contest? Who has the right? How would we know?

There's no way. Theology isn't something empirical, that can be proved or disproved like math or physics. It's people's best guesses at interpretations of a very old, error-filled and self-contradictory book.

You are debating in circles and making claims that are just not true.

I appreciate the effort but you don't have any idea what you are saying. You are jumping in a discussision that you have very little experience with. Please don't predend that you do.

I didn't say your scriptural knowledge wasn't top notch, but it sounds really awesome when you say that.

Most atheists don't believe in any theology. Makes me wonder why SP cares about theology at all if he doesn't believe in it.

I mean, wouldn't it be more to the point to say "I don't believe in theology" versus "I know theology, and yours is flawed"?

You're really great at observing threads and then pointing out what you believe posters should have done differently in them. And by great I mean terrible, Captain Hindsight.
