I don't think this has happened much since he has been the HC. I know he went to Tyron Smith's pro day but off the top of my head I don't recall any others he personally went to see.

Not worth the 4th pick of the draft according to our experts here, but here's someone else claiming Bosa is the best player in the draft:


Tier 1

This is the elite class of prospects in the 2016 NFL draft. They should be starters from Day 1 and project as perennial Pro Bowl players.

1. Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State (Grade: 96)
2. Laremy Tunsil, OT, Mississippi (95)
3. DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon (95)

Bosa has been in the No. 1 position all season, and I see no reason to change that now. He plays with exceptional technique and effort. And while Bosa may lack elite speed, he's a dominant player on the field. Tunsil, meanwhile, is firmly in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick because of his rare athleticism and upside. Buckner, who has the versatility to fit in a 3-4 or 4-3, has a motor befitting a player who will have a long and successful career.

Personally I would take Buckner over Bosa. Buckner has more versatility and could be that dominant Warren Sapp caliber DT that Marinelli has been wanting since he got to Dallas.

I would not mind Buckner with the 4th pick at all. In fact if they really wanted to fix this defense they would take Buckner at 4 and Billings or the best available 1-tech at 34. Then allow Buckner to move around the line depending on the matchup so. Kind of how Seattle does with Michael Bennett.

After spending 17 mils on Thornton, I cant imagine them investing a high pick into a 1 tech DT. Nor should they, he was a solid addition and he will help our D.

Thornton is a rotation guy. He should not be starting. If Thornton were the 2nd or 3rd best DT on the team this DL would be extremely good. If Thornton is the starter they are really no better off than they are with Hayden. Slightly better maybe but not elite level like Buckner would be.

I did say he was better, but he's still just a rotation guy. He isn't exactly Vince Wilfork out there. The team would be better if Thornton is the 3rd or 4th best DT on the team.

Dez is an All Pro caliber WR. Thornton is nowhere near being an All Pro DT. Again, I'm not saying he sucks I'm just saying this DL could still use an upgrade over Thornton.

I think he had 7 1/2 as a Freshman and 13 1/2 as a soph, why would you think he couldn't get to double digit sacks?

He didn't do it last yr, but the coaching staff there has made comments about how much he was double (and sometimes even triple) teamed. He freed up a lot of other guys to make plays.

Watch his clips. He definitely has pass rush potential. Maybe he isn't a 15+ sack per yr guy, but there's no reason he cant be a fairly strong, if not dominant player who commands a lot of attention.

I think I read he is only 20 yrs old as well. He can still grow some (weight) and definitely get a lot stronger.

He looks to me like he is physically at his peak right now. He doesn't really have the frame for more bulk and his game is not based on power but quickness and dexterity. I almost think he should be a 3-4 olb.

Guess you didn't catch the part where Thornton was the 3rd rated DT league-wide vs the run over the past 3 yrs.

So no, he isn't a backup.

They didn't pay him that to be a "rotation guy"

The only reason Philly didn't make more effort to keep him is they are switching the 4-3, and they have Fletcher Cox and Bennie Logan to man those DT spots. Logan costs nowhere near what it would have been for them to retain Thornton

If both Wentz and Goff are gone before we pick at 4, the decision could come down to Bosa or Ramsey. I guess Jack could be in that discussion as well, but that seems awfully high to take a guy who might be stuck playing strong OLB and nickel as a rookie (plus he has the knee concern). So IMO it'd be Bosa or Ramsey.

We need the DL upgrade, but the team might take Ramsey anyway because they could think (probably correctly) that they have a better chance of nabbing quality DL help later (due to depth of the position) compared to taking Bosa at 4 and then trying to find the right DB later.
