I bet Bobby Carpenter was better than the 18th player on our board in 2006. Good pick?

I have a very hard time believing Frederick was the 22nd best football player in the entire draft this year. If he was, great. He is very strong and doesn't get pushed back. But his feet are like concrete.

I definitely think we could have gotten a better player. But, I'm ok with drafting for need if you are taking a slightly worse player. With that said, I really like the trade down.. People will complain that we got shafted, and we did lose by a little. But there isn't any question that this team just doesn't have enough GOOD players. We have talent up top, but after that we are awful. More picks for good, not necessarily great players is really what this team needed. Not suggesting you skip a great player to take a good one, but in this instance, nobody at 18 was really a wow player, and getting another top 75 pick is exactly what we needed to do.

if we come away with 3 big time contributors today it will be ok.

Some combination of warford, bell, thomas, hill, short, logan, or a wr ...

I will be fine with it.

I just wonder why the giants have absolutely no problems taking pugh at 19 to be a starter at tackle when we also need a tackle and move away from one....what if pugh turns out to be an 8 year starter in ny and we are still chasing our tail at tackle?

that part I dont get. If he is good enough to go at 19 to ny why is dallas so against him at 18......?

Do I need to make a football 101 post to explain this to you?

We had our scouts work all year to break down players. Then we formulated our own board based on players we liked and our needs. We had Frederick ranked 22nd overall.

We didn't reach.

That's assuming you believe Jerry on ranking him 22nd.

There would've been nuclear fallout had we taken Pugh at 18. Hell, he was rumored to us and we fans scoffed at the idea. I know. I read it on this very forum. :)

How about this... many fans are up in arms we didn't take Floydd. Giants have a need along the DL, DT specifically, and they're not a ateam that has every shied away from taken DL they liked. They passed on Floydd as well.

Pugh is a huge reach at 19. Just like Frederick at 31..give me the extra 3rd too

what if he is a good player though? Personally I dont care what broaddus, kiper, mcshay etc say or how they rate players....

if he is good enough for the giants who need a tackle I just wonder what is so different about the way we viewed him.

if he pitches a shutout opening night against spencer, well overdrafting him wont mean a damn thing.

A lot of teams reached for OL

Chargers
Giants
Bears
Cowboys

You could argue eagles w a slight reach

These OL went so fast..teams started reaching to make sure they filled needs. Can't do anything else, what are teams going to do? Go into next season w the same handicap that killed them last year?

yeah floyd clearly fell for a reason, I can understand that. Lots of players have done that throughout the years.

I am just saying, the giants have a good front office and they wasted no time turning the pick of pugh in...We need a tackle also...just wondering where the difference lies

I believe him when he says Sean Lee was the 15th rated player in that draft. I believe him when he says had we had our 2nd last year we would've taken the LB seattle took (Wagner?). And I believe him when he says Fred was the 22nd rated player.

They say a man is the most honest the few minutes after a sexual climax. Maybe the draft has that effect on Jerry as well.

I can't answer that.

I don't think they drafted him to be a tackle though. He has 7" arms.

Here's the missing piece Theebs.

Many teams view Pugh as an OG not a OT. Arms are short.

thanks. that makes sense then.

I like frederick, I think he is a guard to be honest from the way they talk about him. I would another guard/center taken today...

anything to build the running game...kelce te, taylor rb.......new running game.

You dont like the player at all?

Dan Schonka was on with norm last week and they loved frederick in the second round said he would step right in make us a stronger/smarter line....

Once the practice begins tbh, I dont care where guys were taken as long as they can play. Ratliff looked better immediately to a lot of people than spears in 05, I didnt care.......as long as they play.

that is why I hope we get 3 big time contributors today. DT/s/rb/ol

Speaking of which, one has to notice that all three of the NFC East teams went OL, and perhaps reached. I think Johnsonw as a reach at #5 for the Eagles, and I think out of the three... Pugh was the biggest reach of all. But all three teams are going for the trenches.
