This is actually a very simple but informative video. It talks about a single detonation, but in a nuclear war, where 100 megaton bombs are used, it is more likely bombs will be falling all over the place. In that case get underground and cross your fingers but it is unlikely you will survive.

Let's hope we never have to face something like this. The more you know though, the better chance you can figure out how to survive, or at least protect yourself as much as possible.

Good luck!

To be fair, the US defense expenditure is for all of US defense including domestic, and our military interests outside of Europe.

NATO is primarily a European defense organization. If we account only for our European defense spending, it would be a lot closer to what the European nations are spending on their own defense.

The US current defense expenditure is about 2.8% of GDP. France is about 1.8% and Germany is about 1.4%. The UK is about 1.9%. You could argue that US forces anywhere in the world could be deployed to Europe in defense of NATO countries if war broke out, but most likely we would not abandon our military support for Asian countries,

I am not going to defend NATO, I think it is obsolete and should be dissolved at some point in the future as we improve relations with Russia.

This is 100% correct. After the reunification of Germany, NAO promised Russia they would not expand further east. They lied. Once there was talk of inviting Ukraine, Russia's immediate neighbor, into NATO of course Russia responded. And with good reason. If Ukraine joined NATO, the US and allies could force Ukraine to shut down the only warm water port accessible to Russia as a sanction against Russia.

I am not defending Russia invasion of Ukraine, but I understand it. I also understand if Russia wanted to take all of Ukraine their initial invasion force would have been much bigger and stronger.

There was never a chance the Ukraine could beat Russia in this war. But thanks to the weak policies of the Biden admin Russia advanced and now the reality is, Ukraine can never take back what Russia has occupied so the only way to end this war is to negotiated a settlement. Ukraine may as well face the reality of where they are.

I've said this a million times. If Europe winds up in some kind of war, the US would be right there and fully committed to fight and die for European countries. But if by chance the US was invaded or our interests attacked, most of Europe would not come to our defense. That is a fact. We know it. They know it.

After 9/11 and Bush went to the UN to justify attacking Afghanistan and Iraq. some European countries, like Great Britain joined us, fully, with troops and weapons. Some did not. Germany, France, and others gave us token support. Forget about whether or not there were or weren't WMDs in Iraq. We were attacked and defending us and potentially them. Many European countries chose to sit it out rather than put their own troops in harms way.

This is why this Ukraine thing is a joke. This war has nothing to do with NATO. I has nothing to do with NATO. It involves a nuclear country with thousands of nuclear weapons. Ukraine would love nothing more than to drag us into this war, while Europe sits back and watches US soldier die on the battlefield.

What concerns me now is that Ukraine will stage some kind of "Sum of All Fears" plot to force the US into a no win confrontation with Russia.
