A final run is not going to happen. There is not enough cap room to to fill the holes on this team and they are not a good drafting team. This was the perfect time to trade these vets and start over. Dallas is toast. Bank on it. There will be no Super Bowl with these core players. It is all down hill from here.

I agree. Dallas has been chasing the final piece since about 2007. TO, Roy Williams, and even Martellus Bennett. All looking for that one piece to put them over the top. Meanwhile, the other 80% of the team has declined in skill and here we are today at a position where the key players like Dez, Murray, Romo, Witten, Ware and a few others have to carry the team and pray for health in order to remain above average.

Cowboys have $148,561,185 on their 2014 cap, by far the largest amt in the NFL. League average is $107,976,388.

:lol

Several of the deals they are counting were set up to be restructured when they were written.

There's also a couple of higher priced guys who almost assuredly wont be here next year. Guys like Ratliff, maybe Austin. Scandrick.

That means dead money.

Looks like about $13.5M of Romo's cap hits for the next 4 years is due to restructuring from previous years. $5M+ this year, $3M+ for the following 2 years and $1M+ for the fourth.

Spotrac has Dallas at $129M for 2015. That's with about 20 players on the roster, none of who are named Dez Bryant, Anthony Spencer, Sean Lee, Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter or DeMarco Murray.

Would be interested in seeing what they are looking at.

Spencer and Murray I'm not worried about.

And as good as he is... if Lee is unable to make it through a full season in 2013, he might not be worth what we'd likely pay him.

But if he were, losing him or Bryant or Carter would be devastating.

I am really nervous about these next few years.

Lee and dez aren't going anywhere.

Carter could be the odd man out and that would end up being a huge loss

None of them are.

They will just keep moving money back until romo is done here. That is when the cap will hurt the team. As long as he is here they will just keep on keeping on.

I could be wrong here, but since Allen has taken over, I want to say they have stopped using this tactic
to maneuver around the cap.

dbair said:
One player likely to discuss restructuring his contract appears to be cornerback DeAngelo Hall. His current deal would count $8 million against next season’s cap and he could be released if the two sides cannot agree to a reworked deal. But a renegotiation might not be necessary if the Redskins manage to get salary cap space restored. Hall said at the end of the recently completed season that he would be willing to discuss a reworked deal to remain with the team.

Veteran wide receiver Santana Moss also could be a candidate for a contract restructuring. Moss’s current contract would count $6.1 million against the cap.

Those players are going to be asked to take a pay cut to stay with the team. Not have the team convert base 2013 salary into signing bonuses.

glorydays point still stands.

Make shit up much? You have no idea if thats the case with either of these guys.

Uh, no. I'm not making that up. It's exactly what they're going to do. You'll see.

@evansilva Well done by #Redskins to re-sign D Hall at significantly reduced rate. Have been critical of him but had some great gms in 2nd half of '12.

:lol

Suck it, dbair.

Yeah I saw that. re-signed with them after he found out nobody else wanted him.

I also posted something where they did restructure someone awhile back.

What do you mean?

They're looking at the cap hits for players under contract for the year 2015.

I get that. Would like to see the info and see who's names and what cap/salary amounts they are looking at.

Just to be helpful.

http://www.overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Cowboys&Year=2015

You could probably count out Free, Witten (maybe) and Ratliff if they dont all preform superbly in 2013. But either way looks like dallas will have over $90 million committed to less than half a roster. This also doesnt account for the fact that there is almost no way for them to get cap complient in 2014 without reworking Romo, Ware, Carr and a few others. this based on the fact that they have some where between $140 and $148 committed to 2014 and even if the cap went up by %10 percent making it $135, Dallas would still be over by $5 to $10 million.

Disclaimer.... the real impact wont even be hinted at until after they

1. Deal with Spencer since they almost have to rework him to sign rookies.
2. Decide what they are going to do with Free.

These two might offset this year, as cutting Free post June 1st would give them the room to sign (most) of the draft picks.

But also remmber the Cap has never jumped more than 8% and the owners group has every reason to keep it as low as they possibly can.

Peace. :)
