Somehow I'm not surprised you can't tell if it's a serious question.

There is no way he could have planned for that to happen as he had no way of knowing Jones was going to run up his sideline. The opportunity presented itself quickly and he made a conscious decision to step his happy ass out on the field and disrupt the play. As a matter of fact the decision was made so quickly he didn't have time to think about the repercussions if he was found out.

You used the term "mean" to do something, which is another way of saying "intent" to do something. If you intend to do something, then actually do it, then you have to have a plan to carry out your intent. This is like remedial stuff here.

So you're saying Tomlin saw Jones running towards his side of the field and he decided to wander out on the field and try to get in the way? I haven't seen every angle of the play, but I sure didn't see a clip of him walking out to that area while the play was going on. That would have been a pretty egregious thing to do... if it happened that way, i may have a different opinion. but every clip I've seen was him just standing there in the second or two before Jones got to that spot.

Sometimes I think you see what NoDak says and just go the other way for shits-n-giggles... sort of like that cat-that-ate-the-canary smile that Tomlin made after he jumped out of the way.

Jon started this conversation and 2233Boys added his opinion. THAT's when NoDak got involved. He got all incredulous that anyone could think Tomlin wasn't acting intentionally, and then asked for an explanation. I gave mine, but you and he don't like it... so be it.

I don't know... I just don't see intent to get into the play there. He screwed up for sure, and I could not care less that he got fined or if the Steelers lose a draft pick.

But I don't think he's that calculating to form intent to get in the way and do it in such a way where he could deny it like this. Like he's gotta form in his head that he would be fined/sanctioned and think, well if I have my back to the play, maybe I can get out of it. I just don't buy that. The fact that the NFL specifically warned the league about sideline interference the week before just makes it less plausible he would do that. It makes the fine/sanction more explicable, but Tomlin's actions less so.

Then again, maybe he is that stupid and I'm giving him too much credit.

The intent was there. He was watching the whole play on the jumbotron, glanced back right as the runner approached, and then stuck his foot out. Then he laughed about it.

I was at a driving range the other day and I dropped my golf club after I hit a shot. I was on the third floor and I lunged down to try to catch it, but it slipped out of my hand and fell down to the first floor. I felt stupid, so I laughed.
