Howie Long "doesn't think his intent was bad."

He's full of shit. I really enjoyed him being gone last week.

I think what Tomlin did was extremely absent minded, and I think he got in that area on the field on purpose. But I don't think he intended to get that close to the play. The step out onto the field looked like he was startled and just an instinctual reaction.

Nope, he was watching the play on the jumbotron. He knew exactly what he was doing. That's why he was grinning afterwards.

Absent minded.

Yeah.

Totally believable. It's not like he's the head coach of an NFL team or something.

Absent minded.

:lol

You don't step out onto the field when you're trying to get off of it.

It's clear as day he meant to do it. Shame on anyone who gives him a pass. It was low down and he thought it was funny. I bet he won't do it again though.

No you guys are right... Tomlin wanted to give his team an unfair advantage and knew Jones was going to run down the Steelers sideline and that his defender would have an angle on him right at that spot, and that he had the perfect excuse to say he was watching the jumbotron. But at the last minute, he said, "SHIT THAR GUNNA SEE MEE!!! Instead of just leaping out there and tripping Jones, he said I'll just stick my foot out there real dainty like and maybe he'll step on it. But then I'll jump the other way so's to make it look real nice.

Yeah.

Totally believable.

LOL

He may not have stepped on the actual field on purpose, but he was definitely intentionally getting as close as possible and trying to influence the play.

Just because he didn't "plan" it any more than Jones planned to run up that sideline, doesn't mean he didn't mean to do it. He saw his opportunity to force Jones to go around him, if even just to disrupt him, and he took it. The fact there are still people who think it wasn't intentional means his smooth talking at his presser works on the weak-minded.

Fact is, absolutely EVERYTHING surrounding that play shows that he knew exactly what he was doing. His actions, mannerisms, and talking about it nailed it for me. I hope they do lose a pick.

Tomlin had his hand in his pocket, too. Jacoby Jones is lucky he didn't get shot.

How do you mean to do something without planning to do it?

I can't even tell if this is a serious question... I would imagine you'd come across this type of thing all the time in your profession.

There is no way he could have planned for that to happen as he had no way of knowing Jones was going to run up his sideline. The opportunity presented itself quickly and he made a conscious decision to step his happy ass out on the field and disrupt the play. As a matter of fact the decision was made so quickly he didn't have time to think about the repercussions if he was found out.

Sometimes I think you see what NoDak says and just go the other way for shits-n-giggles... sort of like that cat-that-ate-the-canary smile that Tomlin made after he jumped out of the way.
