Jerry Jones: I want Dallas Cowboys 'to be a part of change'

Published: Aug 28, 2020 at 03:25 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that he wants his team to be "a part of change" during a Friday radio interview that followed a Thursday that saw nine teams cancel practice or football activities to raise awareness to issues on social justice and police brutality.
"I really want to say how our hearts as an organization, individuals in the organization, how our hearts go out to the individuals and the family members who have been affected by these times, these disheartening times that we've all seen on television," Jones said. "And I want our team to be a part of change. The dramatic change isn't going to happen overnight, but I want our organization and our players to play a part in the movement of making this a better place in this country. I feel confident that our players have a can-do and what-can-I-do participation in it. I want what the Cowboys to help make this a better place."
The Cowboys practiced Thursday and Friday, and coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that the team had an "open forum" at its Thursday afternoon meeting to make sure "everyone has the opportunity to be heard. I feel like we had a very good dialogue going on."
Jones was not a part of Thursday's meeting, per McCarthy, because he was out of town. McCarthy did say Jones would be "involved in the near future, and I know the players are looking forward to the interaction," per The Athletic.
In a separate radio interview earlier this week, Jones said that he wants to find a compromise with his players regarding protests during the national anthem this season and would prefer to implement a policy in which the team kneels before but not during the playing of the national anthem.

because this is a nation of laws

propaganda only works on simpletons like yourself

This is rich coming from you...talking about a nation of laws.

In addition, you formulate your own argument and then want to debate it. That's stupid and you haven't been paying attention to the recent goings on in the country about who gets charged and who doesn't. None of that takes away from what Scot posted or what I posted. Again, look it up and we can discuss it. Otherwise, save me you bullshit commentary.

And then becomes the President of the United States and the most powerful person in the entire world!

Poor guy

What a fucking loser

It's just the stupidity of the argument, really. Yeah, some guy didn't buy the Cowboys and he's a billionaire but somehow the fact that he might not have made a smart businesses decision at one time is a mark against him, even though he's been incredibly successful.

Business people take risks. Some they win, some they lose. Meanwhile, others feed off the government tit for most of their adult life and somehow that makes them successful. I hate Jerry Jones with all my fiber but he's a smart business man. I don't know how many times we've discussed it. Because Jerry was broke at one time or had to have his credit cards seized and destroyed doesn't take away from what he's done financially.

Same with Trump. Like him or not, he's a billionaire and played his cards like a businessman would. Yes, some of his companies filed for bankruptcy and some of his projects didn't work out. But if business people didn't take risks, they wouldn't have been successful.

And I'll quote myself and add this because the dolt has no idea of Cowboys history. Bum Bright was bleeding money. One million dollars a month. Trump would have been in the same predicament but the dolt wants to compare apples to oranges using a 1984 article. In 1983, the Cowboys were 12 and 4 and made the playoffs. In 1984, they went 9 and 7 and in 1985 they went 10 and 6 and made the playoffs. Bum knew he needed a change at HC but he couldn't fire Landry. Jerry was in a different situation where the team hit rock bottom and had the #1 pick in the draft. Just about anyone who bought the team in 1984 was going to have an uphill battle and the NFL wasn't the money machine it is now.

I said it before in another thread, I wish Trump and like-minded people he knows would bring back the USFL. No bullshit rules, pay premium dollars to pry elite players out of college football and key NFL free agents, no bullshit politics by coaches or players. Just good football.

It failed before because the NFL hadn't alienated 50% or more of their fanbase. Those people pissed off today at the NFL would embrace the USFL now if it were run the right way.

the issue is competence - some business people take dumb risks - that JJ had better judgement speaks rather loudly
that one botched investment shows how reckless Trump's judgement and behavior are off the cliff
as I recall a key issue was the NFL's opposition to his character as a potential owner
so he bad mouths a deal he was unfit for, that's a con man

He's a loud mouth with a trust fund. BTW, if he had just invested what he inherited in the S&P 500 he'd be worth near $100B ... he may have a negative net worth for all we know. Hardly a self made success story of American business.

seems like you're saying a bad business man is a better than career public servants for the ultimate service job

did you really think a man who couldn't run a football team or a training company or a casino LOL, and never succeed at anything but branding and propaganda (and money laundering according to his one of his former campaign managers) could honorably manage the US government? why?

that's a straight question - forget the right wing / left wing stuff - did you really think he could hang in the WH?

Let's start here. Where did you get this "stat?"

I'll look at it several different ways. I was a public servant but that doesn't mean I was qualified for the job. Joe Biden is a swamp rat. A gutless guy who will say anything and lie for a vote. I'd respect him if he got out of his basement and took hard questions if he wants to be President. He's a coward and he's avoiding the public or taking any real, un-staged questions, and using "science" as an excuse. How do you even buy that?

I'll also say this. I don't know about Trump's character. I'm sure he's gotten a lot of pussy in his day. Just like Clinton and any other wealthy dude. Even Jerry although at least Trump's bitches were older than 18. But I do know that people's children can be a reflection of their parents. Hunter Biden is an opportunist who leveraged his father's influence for millions which were, most likely, funded in part by the Chinese. You can overlook that all you want. But it still hasn't been explained. Hunter Biden is also a crack addict. Now, I don't say this without some compassion. Addiction is a horrible disease. But I'm not sure Hunter Biden earned shit without the influence of his father, who happened to be a public servant. Trumps kids were born into wealth. No doubt. But at least they made something of the opportunity and they're running their father's company. Unlike Hunter, who took millions because his dad was VP. Unless you think Hunter, a drug addict who was also booted from the military, was qualified to sit on the board of a company he knew nothing about.

But again, I digress. I don't even know why I respond. You're an idiot.

typo, not $100B, meant over $10B

the NYT based on the tax and bank documents he's about to be indicted over ... he inherited $400+M, by 1984 (age 40), the SP500 was below 175, it's currently at 3,500 ... cap gains and dividends puts it well over $10B

you're a trick

once the GOP wouldn't have tolerated an orange haired trick with 3 trophy wives on any ballot
worse, the 2 top guys in the GOP - Trump and McConnel, are 1960s draft dodgers
the main problem is the moral collapse of the GOP
for further proof read just how tacky your response above is - Jerry Springer level thought
