I live in NJ and I can absolutely confirm what he says. In my town we had a corporate park with several very large global companies having their North America headquarters there. In the last 10 years they all moved out to red states in the south. The problem is not just taxes, because most of these companies took huge tax deals to come here in the first place (which is another discussion). The problem is the cost of living for employees (higher salaries), regulations, and the overall business environment. NJ has some of the most complicated corporate laws and regulations in the country. Meeting all those regulations is costly and businesses are choosing to leave rather than deal with them.
