Good post.

I, too, wonder if Ryan had big input into the Carr and Claiborne acquisitions, and if Jerry didn't think he got his money's worth. Especially after he mentioned how much he was spending in that recent interview.

But I think it's scapegoating more than anything.

Uhh then how about the $20+ million he has invested in a coach to go .500 with one wildcard win over 6 years?

I'm convinced Garrett could survive nuclear holocaust.

Dont understand what some of you are looking at that think this defense was "good"

This is what happens when you watch the same garbage defense every week for several years.

The injuries make for nice excuse talk, but the fact is the guy didnt have a good defense even when he had everybody out there. It wasnt good last year, and it wasnt good this year.

Most stats are for losers, but the stats that matter (like QB hits, passes defensed, turnovers, 3rd down conv %) we stunk at, and have for quite some time.

Again, if Garrett is getting fired as an OC, how is firing Ryan "scapegoating"

This is not to say I dont belive Garrett shouldnt be fired (I think he should be) but the only way Ryan is being made a "scapegoat" is if he's the only one whacked. Garrett has two positions here, and appears likely to lose at last one of them.

Garrett keeps his job (doesn’t have to move his family to another city). Gets paid the same and has less responsibilities.

Garrett isnt keeping all his responsibbility, and you have no idea whether his pay level is staying the same or not. None of us do. It very well could be that Jones told him the only way he stays is if he makes wholesale staff changes (which were necessary) and took a paycut.

What really sucks is that the new DC won't get to bring any of his guys in here.

I would not want to be the new DC.

Guess you've been asleeep (or passed out).

Been reported today that each of the current defensive assistants can leave if they wish, but in order to be retained here they'll have to be interviewed by the new DC.

Go back to sleep Bob.

I'm almost positive you defended the defense earlier in the season...

I havent really liked his defense since he came on here. I had high hopes that we'd see some exotic, attacking defense. But it was apparent after last year he was just living off his dad's name and was every bit as mediocre as the fans in Oakland and Cleveland thought he was.

I dont know what posts you are referring to, you'd have to show me some example. I've been pretty adament that I didnt like the way the defense was coached all year.

Man I just watched the segment Mickey filmed with Jerry for special edition on the defense.

First it's pretty obvious Mickey knew Ryan was fired and couldn't say it because Jerry is basically talking about Ryan in the past tense.

Jerry comes off as looney tunes. His point of emphasis were the Seattle game and the Chicago game.

I get Seattle. But Chicago? I almost wonder if he meant Baltimore because the bears game should have got the offensive staff fired not Ryan. Spencer didn't even play that night.

I will put it on YouTube tonight.

This goes back to a core belief of mine. Jerry/Stephen talk to much. Fans don't need explanations from the wealthy billionaire who owns the team, let the coaches talk.

The jones family needs to just shut up and get off the air. They ask for all the backlash they get and the local media is obsessed with them.

I don't.

Did the defense crumble at the end? Yes.

Would Dallas have won if they surrendered zero points? No.

When you hand out 10 points because of your special teams and offense and your offense only musters 7 points in the game, you are winning. So unless he's saying that Ryan's group didn't score enough to make up for an inept offense, Seattle is a horrid example.

We gave up two huge drives on defense and got manhandled.

No one has played well there but the defense was poor that day.

We forced them to kick a fg early, other than that not much.

The offense if I remember correctly had three huge drops which would have been first downs and maybe a Td to witten.

I am glad Ryan is gone, he never deserved the job in the first place. We can only get better without him.

I'm sure both Seattle and Chicago had some impact, I dont know that either were tipping points though.

The Seattle game the defense was horrendous the 2nd half. They let a rookie starting his 2nd game look like Warren Moon in his prime against us, and the run defense got trucked.

Chicago and Cutler had little problem picking apart the pass defense. I think Cutler posted a 140+ rating for that game and threw no ints. This was another game that in spite of facing a team with an inferior OL, our defense got almost no pass rush.

It got worse and worse as the year wore on. Last year the defense blew late leads a number of times (4 or 5 IIRC correctly) and for 3 seasons now we have struggled to force turnovers or generate a consistent pass rush.

It was time to do something different.

To me the bottom line is.

The whole offseason was spent fixing the defense.

Then the defense while hurt played poorly.

That probably was enough for the jones to sour on him, then if Garrett says hey he was the 4th choice anyway lets get better....what else is there to ask?

This is a good thing unless we hire campo back or something.

Assuming Jg is back, do you think he's calling plays?
