He was done. I remember my dad saying that the game just passed him by, and pointed to The Catch that ESPN shows twice a day as proof. He said we were in prevent defense when we shouldn't have been.
I guess. His run was phenominal though, he never gets his due. Lombardi, walsh, brown......DOnt hear much praise for landry nationally. Its like people under 30 never heard of him.
I guess he should have screamed real loud and said.....then you get a seel here and a seel here......blah blah blah
there was a great documentary done on landry last fall. They talked to charlie watters, hollywood, roger and many others...but they also sat down with belichick and he broke down the flex defense and the offenses landry ran including the intro to the shotgun and how when he was in NY they prepared to play against landry. Charlie watters is on the record in that saying the players begged to change to a 34 in the early 80s and landry wouldnt even listen to it....
Landry still had a good run against parcells/bellichick and other good coaches down the stretch there. The last time we won the division under landry was in december of 1985, Phil simms screwed up a kneel down situation and fumbled we got the ball and scored and won the game........Lost to the rams a few weeks later but he still had it together till those last two seasons....old team, dynasty at the end of the cycle...
edit I maybe confusing the earlier game in ny in september of 85 where simms screwed up...either way we beat them at texas stadium in week 15 to win the division for the last time ever under Tom Landry.
