He was done. I remember my dad saying that the game just passed him by, and pointed to The Catch that ESPN shows twice a day as proof. He said we were in prevent defense when we shouldn't have been.

I guess. His run was phenominal though, he never gets his due. Lombardi, walsh, brown......DOnt hear much praise for landry nationally. Its like people under 30 never heard of him.

I guess he should have screamed real loud and said.....then you get a seel here and a seel here......blah blah blah

there was a great documentary done on landry last fall. They talked to charlie watters, hollywood, roger and many others...but they also sat down with belichick and he broke down the flex defense and the offenses landry ran including the intro to the shotgun and how when he was in NY they prepared to play against landry. Charlie watters is on the record in that saying the players begged to change to a 34 in the early 80s and landry wouldnt even listen to it....

Landry still had a good run against parcells/bellichick and other good coaches down the stretch there. The last time we won the division under landry was in december of 1985, Phil simms screwed up a kneel down situation and fumbled we got the ball and scored and won the game........Lost to the rams a few weeks later but he still had it together till those last two seasons....old team, dynasty at the end of the cycle...

edit I maybe confusing the earlier game in ny in september of 85 where simms screwed up...either way we beat them at texas stadium in week 15 to win the division for the last time ever under Tom Landry.

As for the coaching hires, yes, of course there will be a difference between having coaches like Jimmy/Parcells who have power over their staffs and personnel and hiring guys like Gailey/Campo/etc. That's the whole point.

Good I'm glad we agree and I can ignore the rest of your speculation and flights of fancy and shit you made up.

Well as expected, I see you can't dispute any thing. Just through out some vitriolic statements as if that will discredit the truth.

So I take it you think Jerry thought guys like Gailey, Campo and Wade were the best we could get? You think he gave them the same power guys like Jimmy and Parcells had?

I don't know. And neither do you. The difference is I'm not the one just making things up and declaring them fact as though I'm privy to the inner workings of the Cowboys front office.

For someone who acts like they don't know, you sure are adamant that I'm wrong. Quite interesting if you ask me.

I take it you are either the "defend all things Cowboys/Jerry" type fan or the "I'm afraid if I admit Jerry's way has never worked then I'll lose hope for the future" type of fan. But hey, whatever floats your boat. If you have to bury your head in the sand to be a fan then more power to you.

I have only maintained that you could be wrong - but my chief point has been that you just don't know and are making things up and trying to pass them off as fact, like all Jerry haters. Why you continue to be oblivious to this is beyond me.

I'm not adamant that you're wrong, I'm just adamant that you're full of shit.

Interesting. Anyone who acknowledges reality and doesn't make things up to exalt Jerry is full of shit. Noted. Now run along and go try and convince someone else of your fairy tale revisionist history.

Wherein "acknowledges reality" = "completely made some shit up and declared it 'reality'" yes, I would agree.

He's not saying you're not right, he's just saying you don't know - which is true.

Hey, none of us were in the room, so there must be a chance Jerry's a football genius afterall, despite all we've seen, heard and read over the last 22 years.

That's good logic and all but he's still full of shat.

I never said there was a chance that Jerry was a football genius, those are the strawman's you keep inventing to circumvent my point which is that you are full of shit. I claimed there is a chance that Jerry has always exerted the same amount of control over football operations, regardless of who was in power as head coach - and the only difference is in the caliber of people who he hired. Results differ because there is a huge difference in quality going from Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson to Dave Campo, not because Jerry is exerting more or less control.
