jerri the jackass strikes again, at this juncture he's sounding like an insane old man they let walk around the building & do interviews

I guess thats a good thing as long as he never gets his way
But, he did get his way on that one, the big extension for Romo.

Got his way on Kiffin and Marinelli, too.

And he was right about not paying franchise QBs to be bus drivers.

Jerry's said a lot of dumb things, but that quote wasn't one of them.

That's not what Parcells was saying at all, when he coined the term.

He was the very definition of it. Mistake free, managing the offense with killer efficiency.

You all think it's a derisive, derogatory term and it never was.
It's derisive when used to talk about a hall of fame QB. And it's not Romo at all. A bus driver is a QB who yes, doesn't make mistakes, but also doesn't win you games. The bus driver QB relies solely on his RB and defense to win games.

I don't recall Parcells calling Romo a bus driver. It was very clear from Romo's first start that Parcells was trying to squash the hype for his (at that time) young QB, "don't get out the annointing oil" and such. Parcells like bus driver QBs... Testaverde was a bus driver here.

And how can you call Troy a "mistake free" QB, and call Romo a mistake prone QB (in the past) when Aikman's interception percentage was higher than Romo's? Aikman threw a pick on 3% of his passes. Romo, 2.7%.

Parcells first used "bus driver" here when talking about Quincy. Said he didn't have to be a hero, "Just drive the bus."

He knew that's all Q could do because of his impulse throws and general dumbassery.

That remark was about Aikman's post season achievements, not his overall record.

That's incorrect. The Bus Driver QB wins you games by not making the bonehead throws and taking the bonehead sacks. The Bus Driver QB gets the ball to the right guy at the right time. The Bus Driver QB gets Super Bowl rings with not even one 400 yard passing game.

Fighter pilot and gun slinger John Elway - 0 Super Bowl wins.

Bus Driver John Elway - 2 Super Bowl wins.

But it is a term he coined long before coming to Dallas.

Carter was a dumb QB, a dumb player and a dumb guy. You cannot be a Bus Driver with those characteristics.

You're watching an all time talent run an offense where you don't have to live and die by the pass every week.

Defense is good enough to keep teams out if the endzone for large stretches, offensive line can line up and push teams backward.

It's funny to read peoples take on Romo now, eventhough it's a young season. I've always saw him as an elite QB in a crummy situation. It's a relief to see him in a balanced offense where he can lean on the run to keep defenses honest.

Hardly a bus driver IMO, but that phrase means different things to different people I guess.

Right, he was dumb and couldn't be fully trusted, so the only way to win with him was to have a running game, keep his reads very simple, and try to keep him from making mistakes. That's why it's a term of derision.

Total opposite of a guy like Bledsoe, who Parcells let throw all day even as a rookie.

You remember what the offense looked like before Romo replaced Bledsoe?

We'd get to 3rd and long and it was an automatic draw or delayed run. Every time.

From the time Romo stepped in, Parcells allowed him to make throws in those situations. Just wondering if you/others remember it like that. Romo, if I remember right, was great on 3rd downs from the get go.

Fuck yes he was. He was electrifying as balls from the moment he took over at halftime vs the Giants.

The best part about him is that he has seemingly no memory. He threw 5 picks vs Buffalo a few years back and still won us the game. Rarely has the offense ever been stagnant or sputtered completely with him at QB.

So Troy wasn't a bus driver in the regular season, but turned one in the post season? Come on dude. A bus driver doesn't score 52 points in any playoff game, much less a super bowl. A bus driver doesn't hit Alvin Harper on a slant to beat the 49ers on the road.

That's incorrect. The Bus Driver QB wins you games by not making the bonehead throws and taking the bonehead sacks. The Bus Driver QB gets the ball to the right guy at the right time. The Bus Driver QB gets Super Bowl rings with not even one 400 yard passing game.

No, that's not what a bus driver is. The term bus driver has ALWAYS meant short controlled passes, score 14-21 points, and don't fuck it up for our all world defense. The only bus driver QBs to win super bowls have had Top 5 in NFL history defenses, and merely serviceable offenses. Brad Johnson in Tampa Bay, Trent Dilfer in Baltimore... those kind of guys.

John Elway helicoptered toward the goalline on a QB scramble in the Super Bowl. That's not what a bus driver QB does.

The term implies all the guy has to do is not fuck things up... hand the ball off and make 5-10 yard throws every time... take zero chances whatsoever. It's not Romo, Aikman, Elway, etc. Those guys are hall of famers. Not bus drivers.

Bus driver Qbs are asked to not lose games for the teams.
Quality QBs can be asked to win the games for you.

Obviously if you have a good team you call plays to drive the bus,(control the clock blah blah blah) but is nice to have a QB that can win a game for you vs. having a Bus driver. All great teams will ask their quality QB to drive the bus as long as the team can. That doesn't make them a Bus driver QB though.

Big difference between play calling driving the bus vs. having a bus driver as the QB to start with.

I would only use the term "bus driver" to describe QBs who never had much talent to begin with, so that excludes Tony. Nor is this team good enough for him to just hand the ball off and hope that the clock doesn't strike midnight on the defense.
