UCF QB Blake Bortles. Maybe groom him and trade him for a future pick.

yup hes my pick esp at 6-4 #230

a guy that's a real sleeper is Tom Savage

Tom Savage – QB – Pittsburgh

The 2014 NFL draft class seems to get heavier and heavier with quarterback talent every day. After Zach Mettenberger entered the spotlight for LSU, another name has begun to creep up the lists for year-round experts. Though Tom Savage doesn’t play for an elite program at Pittsburgh, it’s worth noting he comes from the same school that produced Dan Marino. Savage will receive low marks for playing less quality competition but scouts aren’t fooled because they can see the measurable lining up. At 6’3″ he has optimum height and the game tape shows a pro arm with plenty of accuracy to back it up. He was a hot topic as a freshman at Rutgers but after two transfers to Arizona and then Pitt, he’s only now getting back on the map

riser

Tom Savage, QB, Pitt: I’ve been meaning to loop Savage into the Risers/Fallers discussion for a few weeks — not necessarily because he’s flying up the board, but because he’s progressed from a draft non-factor to someone who might have an NFL shot. That’s probably reaching too high (Savage is not exactly setting the world ablaze), but he’s been a major factor in Pitt attaining bowl eligibility. Savage threw for 218 yards, one TD and one interception in a win over Syracuse this past weekend, a solid showing right in line with what he’s done most of the season.

but would take Bortles over Savage

did you know the Big Ten sux ass and has only one team that plays any defense?

I'm just saying. Maybe McCarron is a crappy knockoff of your avatar (Bledsoe) who is only famous because his girlfriend gave Brent Musberger a boner on air.

Get back to me if you have any hard hitting draft analysis that can refute that.

Watch the way he throws the football. Have you actually looked at any of his play? Have you seen the numbers the guy has put up against what is by far the best talent in college football the last 3 years?? He gets the ball downfield, he throws with a lot of accuracy. He doesn't turn the ball over. Has a quality arm.

I'm not saying he is John Elway or Dan Marino, but I think he has a chance to be pretty good.

I'm guessing 2nd round. Although if he goes to the combine and really throws well, maybe he sneaks into late first.

I just like the guy the more I watch him. If he was solely a product of massive talent around him and all he did was hand off, I'd think otherwise. But he throws it well and can get it downfield. He also doesn't force many balls into bad coverages or throw picks.

Still don't see it with McCarron. I bet 25 QBs could do what he does. All he has to do is not throw the ball to the other team. Granted, not all QBs can keep from doing that, but I still don't see that much talent there.

Not that he couldn't be a career backup type as lame as the QB situation in the NFL is.

I see it the same way.

Curious as to why you think that.

I just don't see that good an arm, do you? I mean we all know how Saban does it, just play great defense and run the ball. Throw it just enough to keep them off balance. What makes him so much better then the guy whose deddy works for Jerry?

Bigger, much stronger arm than "that guy who's dad works for Jerry"

Look at the stats to with him too. 53 tds and only 8 picks, completes about 67/68% of his passes and averages about 9 yds per attempt. It isn't like he never throws it either. He averages about 27 or so attempts per game. And they play against a lot of really good teams with the best NFL talent on defense in the country.

He's been extremely well coached as well. I think a lot of people are sleeping on him, although most of them are internet geniuses like at CZ

McCarron is the ultimate game manager type of SEC QB.

He's a perfect match for Alabama and Saban, but I don't see him as the dynamic type of QB who can make his mark in the NFL.

For example, he isn't the player that Andy Dalton was/is.

Being a quality game manager SEC QBs usually doesn't translate to a highly successful NFL career.

He's never been asked to do more so it's not really fair to say he can't. The coach I know (I'm important!) who got to work the Manning camp the last two years says McCarron looks the part, can make all of the NFL throws, etc.

NCAA coach you want to see in Dallas... Gus Malzahn?

Career Arkansan except for a few years at Tulsa and Auburn ... You know Jerry knows him well. :towel

Is Jerry tight with Houston Nutt? Did Nutt and Malzahn get along?

I still think this team backs into the playoffs and Garrett comes back.

I think they had their battles because Malzahn wanted to throw it more, but if anything he's grown as a coach since then because now he runs it all the time himself. Using the players on your team to their particular strengths and all... That concept that is foreign to us all too often.

But he's from the state so you know Jerry knows him. Was even HC at Lacewell's old gig Arky State. :towel

Seriously though, I'm admiring these top spread-type coaches more and more, especially when they can adapt to run it like Malzahn. And he looks like more of a professor type with the little glasses but I guess he's turned into a heck of a coach.

You're right though, Garrett's gonna stay one way or another. Probably get a three-year extension. :suicide
