Yes, the Nets are still Howard’s desired destination, but GM Billy King still hasn’t had a substantive conversation with Smith lately. Orlando has made it clear to everyone that it’s a buyer to find help for Howard, not a seller. Yet, most teams believe the Magic will eventually realize they simply don’t have the assets to bring back a significant player to join Howard. Several executives insist forward Ryan Anderson has the most value to teams, and the Magic are determined to re-sign him to a long-term deal.

Still, the Nets can pay the most money for Williams and Howard and, ultimately, that counts for so much. Now, the Magic promise to make everyone keep waiting on them, on the recruitment of Howard, because Plan B and Plan C and Plan D are so unappealing in Orlando. Nets fans were 100% convinced they'd be signing Lebron a couple years ago. It's the same thing all over again. Nobody wants to play there, including Williams, who has been walking around with a depressed Manning face since he was traded.
Plus, Dallas would not have just dumped Chandler without any assurances. It's tampering if things come out now, but I'm sure you'll see Dallas win any negotiation battle over the Nets. When's the last time the Nets have won anything?

I had to laugh when you claimed the East is tougher than the West. New Jersey will have a hard time winning their division but could easily be a top 4 seed assuming the team actually becomes good. All you need in the East is 50 wins to get a top 4 seed while that hardly guarantees a playoff spot in the West.
