Report: Redskins interested in Shaun Rogers


The Redskins have reportedly already "reached out" to free agent DL Shaun Rogers.
Per Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, Rogers is expected to visit the Redskins this week, perhaps as soon as Friday. With Albert Haynesworth as good as gone this offseason, Rogers would be a replacement at nose tackle. Rogers can still get after quarterbacks, but he's no longer a top-notch run stuffer.

Sources close to Shaun Rogers say the Redskins have reached out and he could possibly visit them this week, even as early as tomorrow.

Redskins' PR Brandon Banks involved in stabbing

NBC 4 in Washington reports that Redskins punt returner Brandon Banks has been hospitalized after his involvement in a double stabbing early Saturday morning. Banks is said to be in stable condition with superficial knife wounds.

Police say an argument broke out around 3:00 a.m. at a 14th Street NW club. The argument escalated into a fight, which escalated into a stabbing. A suspect, who is now in custody, attacked Banks and Banks' companion. That companion is reportedly in critical condition.

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis' release is imminent -- likely tomorrow, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Despite another injury-plagued season, Portis still considers himself an elite running back.

"I know I got good football left in me," Portis told reporters on Wednesday. "I think being fresh, having been really in the last two years not having a lot of contact, I think the two injuries -- going out with a concussion, and then the torn groin -- was really fluke injuries. I don't think that's a wear and tear, like, 'Oh his body broke down.' I think that was just fluke injuries."

Portis, who has spent seven of his nine years in the NFL with the Redskins, played in only five games last season, rushing for just 227 yards and two touchdowns.

Portis will be 30 next season and he's owed more than $8 million.

Redskins release Derrick Dockery

Veteran guard got big contract 2 years ago

The Washington Redskins released left guard Derrick Dockery today.

The Washington Post reported the news, and Dockery told the newspaper that he was informed of the move today by coach Mike Shanahan.

A third-round draft pick by the Redskins in 2003, Dockery was in his second stint with the club. He had signed a $26.5 million, five-year contract two years ago before Shanahan arrived. The 30-year-old was inactive for much of last season, appearing in only five games with two starts. Prior to 2010, he had gone seven seasons without missing a game.

Next, the Redskins will need to figure out what to do with Jammal Brown, who will be an unrestricted free agent. The club traded for him last year and if the unrestricted free agent isn’t re-signed, he’ll turn into a one-year rental. The Redskins will need to be convinced Brown can remain healthy.
