He's had some highly ranked running games as a playcaller, I don't think this will be a concern. Russell Wilson also had several of his best yrs with Schottenheimer as the playcaller.
Between him, Solari and Mayor McCheese they didn't commit to Dowdle as the bellcow over Zeke or know their best 5 olinemen regardless of injuries until after mid season. What was head coach Jerry's influence is a decent response but not the only one.
Solari was NOT a good oline coach. He was just name recognition from long ago offensive lines. His run and pass block oline numbers were middle to suckage.

Schottenheimer has his dad's last name but historical offensive numbers are not some rosy standard at all. Hell, he's very similar to Solari in that regard.
Check profootball reference com dating back to 2006 as an OC with Jets, Rams, Seahawks and then Cowboys.
Most metrics not impressive.
So hopefully the Klayton Adams and Connor Riley run game coaching/influence can carry Schotts lack of playcalling credibility to above average standards.

If you don't understand why that happened (hint, Johnny Walker) then I can't help you. It WAS the only reason. (ok maybe some credit is due his BFF Dak-tard too) but I seriously doubt Fat Mike or Schottenheimer even wanted Zeke on the roster, let alone have to use him.

As for checking his numbers, you're right to a point. Although it's not exactly like he had loaded offensive teams at those places either. He did help get the Jets to back to back conference championships with Mark Sanchez as a QB and Russell Wilson had tremendous years under Schottenheimer. He's had at least two or three seasons with teams leading the NFL in rushing too.

Agree on Solari, he was living on his prior rep and wasn't overly impressive here. That said, Tyler Smith has been excellent, Cooper Beebe had a solid rookie yr playing C for the first time ever and even guys like Hoffman and Bass have been decent. So he hasnt been a complete failure either.

I really do like the new coaching staff though, up to tweedle dee and tweedle dum to add some talent now.

New WR coach signed. Oregon WR corp has been pretty impressive under his watch.

Okay,
Well I'll agree to disagree on Schott's past performance being a determining factor to merit the opportunity to fail up into a head coaching position.
The other staff hires on paper look decent and hopefully can carry the HC along.
Still got the same QB so the team's ultimate outcome will remain.
His 5th playcaller and all now.

My first choice was Bill. That's no secret. I heard the spawn said that Bill wasn't available. He already took the Carolina job. What a crock of shit. As if they had no opportunity to talk to Bill before that or even just ask Jimmy to talk to Belichick!

That said, I'm okay with Schotty Jr. I am hoping he is a chip off the old block and will creatively use the running game and bring back a 2 back set.

I never saw Jeanty play a college game. I only watch the Aggies. WOW! He looks like the real deal! A combination of Barry Sanders and Emmitt. I'd have no problem with Jeanty at 12. Use him and Luepke together. Luepke does have some running ability.

Use that FB to help bolster the run blocking and as a change up. I like old time football. I like the two back sets. I like to ground and pound and control the clock. I realize that sometimes you also have to air it out. With Lamb, Fergie, and maybe a couple others (maybe Cooks comes back, maybe one of the young guys) I think we'll be able to move the ball in the air if needed.

I'm okay with giving Schotty a chance. We have to get the salary cap right and rebuild the lines. Hopefully, Martin has one more year left to buy a little time. If not, maybe move Steele inside, Guyton to the right, and get a FA to play LT.

Like I said in other post before this became official. I don't see this as being any worse than any other dumb decision the Jones-tards could have made. We were 7-10 this year, we'll likely be 6-11 or 7-10 next year. We'd have had that same record had Fat Mike returned. We'd have had that same type of record had they hired Kellen Moore. (And to be clear, these were probably the only REAL candidates there were. McCarthy, Moore and Schottenheimer)

Schottenheimer's Dad was an excellent HC for a long time. He never got the team to the Super Bowl but he had some really good teams that played sound fundamental football. Almost blue-collar like teams. If or Schottenheimer has that characteristic, then that's at least some small positive. We need a no non-sense coach that gets these guys to play somewhat disciplined. He's never been a HC before, so we don't know yet what his philosophy is. Pete Carroll and Mike Lombardi speak highly of him and think he can be a quality coach and those two guys are pretty solid football people.

That said, this is a typical Jerry uninspiring move. We have no idea if players will take this move seriously. They made this move in large part to placae the $60 millio mediocre QB, admitting what we all already know. Dak is incapable of learning anything new and certainly can't be expected to perform in a scheme where has has to make quick decisions and actually read the field. Odds are Schottenheimer will just fall right in line with whatever drunken GM and Spawn want done. Spawn I and Spawn II were apparently the drivers behind this decision (ironically, the same thing happened when they hired McCarthy, they talked Daddy into it) and I'm convinced those two clowns are dumber about football than Jerruh is.

They could have done far better. They probably could have done worse. I think Moore would have been worse because I don't see him inspiring a flea to bite a dogs ass. Schottenheimer at least has some rep as a get in your face kind of guy and we have a roster of players who need that.

Bottom line, hire doesn't move the needle and the end results will probably be no different than any other hire they could have made (save for people like Belichick, Vrabel, Nick Saban Kirby Smart etc etc)
A lot of what you wrote I agree with, but my hope is Jeanty will fall to 12 and I think Jeanty can fix Dak and even some OL issues. I am very impressed with him. We'll see.

Then again, to be fair, I thought I saw some juice from Vaughan and do not understand why McCarthy didn't play him more, so my RB evaluation skills might suck.

I don't think Vrabel was a possibility. He wants control. None of this every decision has to be made by a committee crap. It's why he was fired at the Titans. Belichick had the trophies to maybe make it happen, We discussed Kirby Smart (loved the idea, but we know he wasn't going to leave).

At the end of the day, I'm alright with giving Schotty a chance. I hope he is not a sacrificial lamb like Campo was and I hope they can get the cap right.

I read they are discussing trading Micah, which depending on what they get for him, I not totally against.

Am assuming he will be QB coach or some other type of offensive consultant type.

Another add to the defensive staff. This guy is thought of by some as a rising potential gem in the college ranks.

Duke Mayweather is one of those who thinks very highly of this guy.

Will be interesting to hear what they have to say collectively, especially Adams, Eberflus and Riley.
