Look at the shat he played with for most of those years? You think defensive coordinators didn't tailor their gameplan around containing Sanders? Of course they did.
We have a winner.

Needless dancing thanks to the offensive line doing a poor job of blocking.I guarantee you I watched Barry play more than most---especially you, if not all on this board. Due to my geographical location I got to see him quite frequently.
And Barry had a hard time collecting yards because he did alot of needless dancing.
It's not like we're saying Barry was better. Just that he was great too and deserves to be right up there in the discussion for GOAT.
And not to mention Barry played behind some pathetic lines.
Emmitt played behind some very good ones.
Biggest myth ever. They had several really good OL, including guys like Lomas Brown, Kevin Glover & Jeff Hartings
We've gone over this. They had a few good offensive lineman...Dallas had many good offensive lineman, including one slam dunk HoF'er in Allen, and one who probably would be if not for the shortened career (Williams)
So they didnt exactly have "pathetic" OL's did they?
And the idea that they didnt have anything else other than Sanders offensively is a joke too. They had a tremendous WR corp for most of the time he was there, led by guys like Herman Moore, Brett Perriman and Johnnie Morton. Everybody knows Wayne Fontes was a boob, but they had Tom Moore as OC for several yrs, and then had Bobby Ross as HC
It was not pathetic...but not near as well off as the Dallas line.
And oh no, Brett Perriman again! Johnny Morton! Hey, those guys were decent wide outs, no doubt, but once again the offensive talent on those Lions team paled in comparison to Dallas. Not to mention they had a pretty bad string of quarterbacks.
I'd take Perriman or Morton over guys like Deion (WR), Kevin Williams, Billy Davis, Jeff Ogden, Cory Fleming, Patrrick Jeffers etc etc any day.
Moore, Perriman and Morton all put up some pretty significant numbers dutring their time in Detroit. Maybe you should check it out.
Ayuh. Stop Barry Sanders and you stopped the Lions. They didn't have anything else.
Stopped Emmitt Smith and you got a dose of Aikman to Irvin or Aikman to Harper. And so on.

Both are great running backs...I'd say the difference between them lies in the situation.
1st & 10 - Emmitt
2nd/3rd &10 - Barry
2nd/3rd & 3 - tie
4th & short - tie
In the red zone - Emmitt
Inside my own red zone - Emmitt
Between the red zone - Barry
Career - Barry
Season - Barry
Playoffs - Emmitt
Super Bowl - Emmitt

Laz, Emmitt was a great runner but he clearly had it easier than Barry because of a better line.
post a couple of you tube videos on here, and you'll see.
With the exception of the Eagles and Cowboys, I saw as much or more of Sanders than any player in his era. Who didn't? The guy was a human highlight film. To suggest there are long time NFL fans who didn't see him all that often to really know the player is ridiculous.
Uh no, but becuase of his impatience in not allowing his blocks to set up. That's why you could not put Barry behind Emmitt's Oline that was far less agile and athletic than Barry's Oline. If Barry was impatient with his zone blocking scheme, he would be even moreso with Emmitt's Oline.
So lets work it the other way...Emmitt Smith had the luxury of playing with a HOF QB and WR, one the best offensive lines ever assembled, and perhaps the greatest blocking fullback ever. He also had that timing offense that put him the right position to succeed.
