Well then I'll take your word for it. I just don't know why he would want to trash Romo.

Everson Walls: Is Romo best for Cowboys?

By ESPNDallas.com

Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Everson Walls isn't convinced Tony Romo is the best option at quarterback and says the team needs to shore up the secondary.

On Tony Romo's ability to lead the Cowboys:

"I may not be the type of guy that really gives many quarterbacks my undying support.

"Romo is the kind of guy that once again the inconsistency is there. I don't know his relationship with his players, but if he's one of those guys that has the trust of his players, you know he's out there giving 100% day in and day out, trying his best to win a game, not giving up on the team no matter what ... then yeah I would follow him."

"And from what I've seen in the beginning of his career, that was Tony Romo. The Jessica Simpson crap that came up, it really seemed to affect his game. And afterwards the injuries started to come and then all of a sudden there became, around the league, this rumor out there, that Romo has a lot of tells in his game, and he hasn't been able to remedy those tells in his game."

"That's when you start to say, 'OK who's going to be best for the Cowboys?' Is it Romo because of his premature popularity ... or are you going to go with a guy like Kitna? Kitna was a pleasant surprise last year."

"Romo's ability to lead this team has been questioned all around the league. The fact that he is in the position to step up means that he has been knocked down a couple of pegs. I'm not anti-Romo as much as I am about pro-production."

On whether a lock-down cornerback is worth $10-$15M

"Hell yeah, no doubt about it. When you look at the impact that Mel Renfro had back in the day with the Dallas Cowboys, when you look at the impact that I had with the Cowboys. I remember Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football say, 'they finally found one,' you know … a cornerback that could make some plays.

"That's what you need. If you look at our teams the last couple of years, we've got all the ingredients in place and it's like the secondary at this point ... I've been a big-time critic of our secondary, because I take offense to a Cowboys secondary that's not able to make plays.

"When you look at how games can be changed by the ability to get your defense off the field in a timely fashion, it just gives your offense much more confidence and leeway when it comes to the game plan and when it comes to taking chances throughout a ballgame."

Maybe he just doesn't believe in Romo.

That's what it is. The jury is still out for me on Romo. He's got this "Who gives a f" attitude. You have no idea which Romo is going to show up from game to game. That's what I don't like about him.

Seems like he's truly conflicted. Like he sees the good plays and all the potential, but then he sees the bad Romo show up too often for his liking. I think it's fair.

I believe in him. I don't know why, I just have a very strange trust that if you can get the football in his hands with a championship on the line, he can carry a team down the field and win it.

But he hasn't done enough yet for me to be able to really defend him when somebody says he's a tease and an underachiever. The fact is he's never had a team around him capable of it. He's always had Jerry. That would weigh anybody down. Wade's been his coach for almost all of his starting career. That's a recipe for failure. Tom Brady couldn't win with Jerry GMing and Wade head coaching.

I believe in Romo too but he really needs to act like every game matters. He's gotten too caught up in being a celebrity and has this attitude about him thats not good for an elite NFL quarterback. He has the tools to be great if he can get over everything but he's not going to be around forever. How old is he now, 30? The big reason he's such a celebirty is because he's the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. He needs to understand that and start taking this job more seriously.

I think he takes his job plenty serious. He just comes across as cool and collective. I've never seen him lose a game and not care. He usually looks pretty pissed off or down about it.

He's just not a rah-rah guy.

He is 30. He's as good as he'll ever be right now. The good thing is he didn't take any punishment early in his career. So you might say he's a young 30. Hopefully.

He's a very young 30. He didn't start really playing until he was 26 I believe. I didn't like his comments after that embarassing Philly loss a few years ago. I don't like his attitude and it's keeping him from being even better than he is now. If he had Troy Aikman's attitude and drive then he would be even better than Troy. He doesn't. So he's Tony Romo.

Yeah, what he said was wrong.

I give Romo a lot of benefit of the doubt. He's had a weak willed excuse maker as a head coach almost since he began playing for the Cowboys. So I wasn't really surprised when his players also started to make excuses and start to accept losing. I think the team is an extension of the head coach.

I don't question his drive at all. He wants to win as bad as any QB in the league. He just needs guidance at the top and a quality team around him.

Aikman was far more talented as a pure passer. Romo couldn't throw an Aikman out route if his life depended on it.

Aikman had a laser arm but as a whole Romo is the more talented quarterback. Maybe Garrett can bring out the best in him. I have a ton of faith in Garrett.

No sane personnel man on the planet would consider Tony Romo a more talented QB than Troy Aikman. There's a reason Aikman was the 1st overall pick and Romo went undrafted.

He's got more talent in different areas. Running, throwing on the run, elusiveness. Aikman was protected by a wall and it's a good thing because he wasn't very mobile. Aikman was a one of the greatest passers ever, but Romo has the tools to be an even more effective quarterback than Aikman.

Aikman had better size, arm, mechanics, accuracy, pocket presence. He's the vastly superior pocket passer.

Romo can move around better.

That's it, and Romo has a pretty good arm too.

What do you mean Romo hasn't taken much punishment? Have you watched the line play during his time as a starter?
