Then what's the point in waiting until the 7th to take Nagy while we just had to have Arkin in the 4th?

Seriously? Are you this dumb?

They are trying to rebuild the OL. We badly needed an influx of young talent there.

I think you are confused on what the CZ is all about...they make tons of excuses for players, like you are doing for Arkin.

Wow...another retarded post.

I am not making excuses for Arkin. He was a small school guy drafted in the middle rounds. He was not expected to be a starter this yr, and just because he isnt doesnt mean he was an awful pick.

I'm not even asking him to be the starter, to be active on gamedays would be nice. But hey, he is from a small school and stuff/

Yeah we needed an influx of young talent. But you didn't answer my question. Why did we take Arkin in the 4th and Nagy in the 7th if the big school player is going to be better?

You take players based on what their grades are. Part of the grade has to do with physical ability and long term upside.

Every year alot of big school OL dont have the desired measurables or dont jump out to people on tape, they go later in the draft and it seems almost yearly some of them end up starting very early because they do come from the bigger programs, are well coached and/or come from pro style offenses.

Arkin is far more gifted physically than Nagy is, but Nagy received better coaching, played and practiced against better competition and benefitted from a quality weight program more than Arkin did.

I'd say Arkin was rated higher because scouts probably figured he has a higher ceiling. Nagy, being from a bigger school was probably seen as more game ready now, but with the lower ceiling.

Right now he only plays one position, and thats guard. Since they typically only keep 7 OL's active they need someone with more versatility. They need one guy who can backup both tackle spots, and the other guy has to be someone who can play C & G.

This seems to be our problem over the years. Drafting too many developmental projects rather than solid players who have produced. Whereas you often see a team like the Steelers take guys that were productive in college and normally at larger schools.

Not saying we should avoid all small school players, but I'd rather take guys that have produced rather than riskier projects.

Does it matter where we drafted Arkin vs. Nagy if we got both players?

Yes. If Arkin isn't worth a 4th round pick then it means we passed on better players at the time to take him.
Or it could mean that Nagy was rated lower than he should have been, and we got a steal in the 7th. Nah, that never happens *cough* Ratliff *cough*

It does not speak well of him or the coaches if he is unable to flip to the left side and that he is being passed over for the start by someone who was not on a roster the first 6 weeks of the season.
