The notion isn't to ban automatic weapons. It's to ban "assualt rifles" which are semi-automatic. Automatic rifles are already illegal unless you have a license for one. Stay informed, or STFU.

And, yet again, there have been no instances of the govt taking guns because they are still legal. I'm not sure what else you want me to tell you. The fact that they know everyone that has guns, though, in and of itself violates the constitution, but people like you are a-okay with that because you had rather the govt be daddy and look after you versus you looking after yourself.

All that being said, even if they do pass a law making assault style rifles illegal, and let's even say they can take them out of the hands of criminals (good luck), the velocity on a 30-06 is about 20% higher than an AR-15 which is the gun that was reportedly used at Sandy Hook.

What does this mean? It means you will still be able to own a gun that is even more powerful than the gun you just outlawed.

this I do know. I dont like guns and my belief on guns is that I wish they would take them away, but I am an adult and understand there are a million responsible, intelligent informed gun holders who are of no harm to society so I am not going to lose sleep over it.

it does scare me though knowing irrational people like yourself are armed to the max and unstable. If you believe the Govment is coming for your guns in merica then you clearly are irrational and are capable of trouble with those weapons.

also, I am a parent and I do not want my kids in another persons home who has guns and I wont let them.

That's actually my point. It's not a kinda thing. They won't just make the "assault rifle" illegal. They won't stop there. They will continue until they are all gone (if it were to happen). That's why this gun ban is being fought so vehemently. It's step 2 in them banning them all, and then step 3 is confiscation.
