I loved Bates. I'd like him to get into the RoH, but only for sentimental reasons. He really wasn't RoH worthy as a player. If he's the 10th rated "safety" in the franchise history, then why wouldn't you put in James Washington or Roy Williams? Those guys were good Cowboys, but not Ring of Honor.

Just the fact he was SO good for so many years. His character. Washington and Williams didn't play very long.

That's not what you said at all.

You're right, I left off the "rarely started at safety" part since it was implied when I said "Career special-teamer." Boy, you really got me there. Yet another burn that will takes years to recover from.

I've been told you're too much of a crybaby for me to do that, so...

Tell ya what. You bring Jon back here, and I'll gladly delete my account here. Then you won't have to worry about my being a crybaby.

And I won't have to worry about you two retards flinging shit at each other.

He played in the Nickel in Jimmy's system. His position on the fucking roster was ever and always, "Safety." He made the Pro Bowl and was All-Pro as a special teamer. The NFL created the "special team specialist" roster spot, just FOR Bates.

First of all you won't delete your account, secondly the real reason Jon doesn't come back is because it was bbgun's ban and it was for damned good reason. He only comes back if bbgun says so.

You're not even really on the radar for, anything. But I knew the 'crybaby' comment would get your goat!:woohoo

Exactly. Even the Pro Bowl committee recognized him as a career special-teamer. After all, they created a spot on the Pro Bowl roster just for him since he couldn't sniff a spot as a safety.

Or, they created the spot because he was just. that. special at the position. And he was.

Nobody's argued he should be in the RoH because of his work at safety. Nobody's said he was even that great of a safety. You've erected a straw man argument here.

You're the one that keeps bringing up him being in the top 10 as a safety, and then flinching when people call him a career special teams player. You can't argue both ways. It's against the rules.

I haven't "flinched" at all, and pointing out he is a top ten Dallas safety is just that - has nothing at all to do with being in the RoH it was merely educational for those who continue to underrate Bates due mostly to simply just their own ignorance of his career.

It's not my fault people are employing the "argument from ignorance" fallacy.

Yes, we are ignorant for saying that a career special-teamer shouldn't be in the ROH. GTFOH

Obviously he must have had some really intelligent arguments, since you brought him up and seem to have issues with intelligent arguments. :effyou

There's position limitations, in the RoH charter? OUICK! Let's let Jerry know he shouldn't have Tex or Tom in the Ring!

The meter is "Outstanding Contributions" and Bates fits that meter.

When the opponent has to use valuable practice time to GAME PLAN for you, for many years without any real success, that's Outstanding.

Yeah, I'm sure teams spent half their practice gameplanning on how to return right.
