^^^ The above is the list of all Cowboy potential free agents.
We have control of the contracts for Brock Hoffman, Markquese Bell, Kavontae Turpin, Tyrus Wheat and Juanyeh Thomas, so we won't lose those guys if they want to keep them.
Of the remainder the one's I'd look at keeping (in order from above):
1) QB Trey Lance- will probaly depend on the contract and he might garner some free agent interest, but I thought he fared decent enough in his one start to at least warrant competing for the backup QB spot.
2) CB Jourdan Lewis- had a really good yr and may end up drawing quite a bit of interest because almost everybody needs good nickel/slot CB's. But we are potentially real thin at CB (Diggs may miss entire season) so ideally we'd keep him.
3) LS Trent Sieg- one of the best in the league...never has a bad snap
4) DT Osa Odighizuwa- Really solid starter for several seasons, still young with good upside. One of best interior pass rushers in the league. Like CB, we don't have much at DT and he'd be a big loss. Will probably garner major free aget interest if he hits the open market
5) DL Chauncey Golston- Really solid rotational player with good pass rush metrics for a backup..can play all across the front and is still young with upside...Sam Williams is coming off an ACL tear and DeMarcus Lawrence may end up retiring. We need to keep Golston.
6) DE Carl Lawson- nice backup pass rushing DE who had a good yr here...improved every week it seemed as he got more healthy...wont have to break the bank to keep him
I didnt include Dowdle because I think we'll be drafting one and maybe two new RB's, one of which would definitely be the lead back...would definitely not be opposed to keeping Dowdle as the backup but it depends on the contract....similarly I didnt include Anger, who is a really good Punter...but he makes a few mils per yr and they could almost assuredly find a young guy making close to the league minimum for that role
I think Martin and DLaw will retire, but if they don't I'd thank them for their great service here and wish them well elsewhere. Need to get younger and spend dollars elsewhere...
