I can see where Campbell wanted to go for the win. It would have given the Lions a shot of momentum and confidence going into the playoffs, especially after marching down the field. But after the penalty, he had to kick the FG and try to go into OT.
Certainly, Dak would have had the ball and a timeout or two with 23 seconds left to get past the 50 for a long FG. Quite frankly, no way that happens with Dak in this game. And the Lions had the Dallas D on it's heals and all the momentum had they gone into OT. Instead, Campbell gambles and loses. That's a real bad call and if MM had done it, we'd be calling for his head.
And I agree on the second down call when Dallas had the ball. WTF was MM and/or Dak thinking? MM for (supposedly) calling the play and Dak for running it and pretty much throwing the ball away. It never even had a remote chance. I'd really like to get a better explanation of that call/play.
Having said all that, I take the win and don't care how pretty it looks. Dan Campbell will be second guessing himself for a long time. He had all the momentum and could have taken that momentum into OT nut instead he gave the game to Dallas.
