It doesn't matter if you save money if you get worse on the field. Steele had a terrible rookie season and a decent sophomore season. Yes, he's cheaper, but not necessarily better.
More upside at this point and makes 100% effort. Players like Collins don't help you change, effort toughness or commitment. For the difference in price, going with Steele makes sense. He may not work out long term, but whatever dropoff in level of play isnt enough to warrant the price difference and lack of effort.

Ultimately I like to see it (actual game play) to believe it before I go off the deep end. I still think the defense is going to be pretty good, maybe even among the best in the league and having a great defense goes a long way towards being competitive and winning games
Opponents will have book now, on this D and its personnel. There's no way the takeaways and the scoring plays we saw last year come again this year. We snuck up on people with the new D last year, won't happen this year.

Saying the best we can do is nine wins isn't going off the deep end at all. In fact it's almost homeristic.

So he's good enough to start for a Super Bowl team but not us.

Right now that is nothing but pure speculation on your behalf.

We have quite a few talented players on D and one guy who is a generational type talent. We also have a really good defensive coordinator.

Why didn't they find their own version of Steele instead of paying Collins?
They had a lot of cap space, they chose to spend it on what they thought were proven starting help on OL.

They also signed one of the Bucs OL.

I bet Parsons and Lawrence abuse the shit out Lael all day when we play them, if Collins even suits up.

Wasn’t La’el Collins expected to start the season on PUP?

I know he’s missed a lot of camp with his back injury

I think he just started practicing after some sort of "injury" along with "personal issues"

Historically, takeaway defenses such as we saw last year do not repeat the performance. So it's a bit more than just speculation.

The "generational talent" idea is the speculation.

Not speculation: Parson's career in Dallas will be wasted like Ware's was.
I think he was more of a sucker punch to opponents last year. They'll be looking for him this year. He ain't Lawrence Taylor.

You believe Parsons is ordinary?

He has freakish athletic ability and playing skill. He was a great LB and a dominant pass rusher as a rookie, he's only going to get better.

He had a better rookie yr than Taylor did when he was DROY and MVP that same year.

What makes you so sure he isn't a Lawrence Taylor type player right now?

Figured this would be the case when he didnt practice last couple days, but sure would ave been nice to see him get reps at LT for sure.

Looks like 5th rd pick Matt Waletzko will get on the field some though.

Interesting.

He just retired off of a super bowl win

There is no better way to leave the game!

Why in the world would he want to un-retire and play for a team that has only won 2 playoff games in nearly 3 decades

Maybe he retired just because he didnt want to be stuck in that shithole fucking dump people call California, and instead wants to live & work in a normal person area.

That said, apparently he is still under contract so the chances he will end up here are 0.00000000013%
