19. Dallas Cowboys | Maurice Hurst | DL | Michigan
This defense needs help at all three levels, but they’d be wise to build from the inside out. Hurst has been one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in all of college football, and could be the difference-maker Dallas desperately needs at the point of attack.

51. Dallas Cowboys | Auden Tate | WR | Florida State

83. Dallas Cowboys | Duke Dawson | CB | Florida

115. Dallas Cowboys | Troy Fumagalli | TE | Wisconsin

I sent out a text to around 10 NFL executives and scouts this week asking one burning question: "Which player are we in the media overrating?" Not everyone replied, but here are the votes from those who did:

1 vote: Josh Allen (QB, Wyoming)
1 vote: Connor Williams (OT, Texas)
2 votes: Vita Vea (DL, Washington)
3 votes: Baker Mayfield (QB, Oklahoma)

Allen ended up having a really good Senior Bowl and is going to likely light it up at the combine, so I think he is a top-10 and maybe even top-5 or so lock now.

There's definitely some high opinions of Hurst out there if you look around.

I usually avoid the trade downs because most of the offers are so unrealistic, but I did this one because it was reasonable.

Wasn't trying to go so offense heavy, but that's where the value picks ended up being. In this scenario Dez Bryant is definitely not on this team next yr, and T Williams might not be either. The offense is definitely upgraded longterm, but I did add 3 good defensive prospects on the final day too.

Your score is: 20016 (GRADE: B+)

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 24 (CAR): Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama (A+)
Round 2 Pick 18: Will Hernandez, OG, Texas-El Paso (A-)
Round 3 Pick 17: Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State (A+)
Round 3 Pick 21 (CAR): D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland (A)
Round 4 Pick 16: Holton Hill, CB, Texas (A+)
Round 6 Pick 19: B.J. Hill, DT, North Carolina State (A+)
Round 7 Pick 18: Darius Leonard, OLB, South Carolina State (A+)

that draft would be insane esp if dallas went and found help on defense in free agency

never going to happen but you know whatever

i had seen it really early on but then it disappeared and it was all about vita vea and bryan from the gators (at least for dallas). i shouldnt be surprised that hurst is mocked to dallas in the least bit but iwas

even the last years draft, when dallas was being floated around as a landing spot for taco, it was said that hurst was potentially the more talented player on that line. similar to how clemson's line was getting critiqued. was the success from lawson or from ferrell (and 1 other guy i think)

ive been wondering ..... how does derwin james compare to jalen ramsey???

Drew Boylhart's (The Huddle Report) #1 prospect in the entire draft.

PARAPHRASED...

Derwin James S/CB/LB Florida State

TALENT
ROUND 1

STRENGTHS
Derwin has the size, speed and athletic talent to play more than one position on defense for the team that selects him in this draft. He is one of the best form tacklers and one of the best open field form tacklers and this will help him to stay concussion free. He has excellent change of direction skills and has those long arms and legs the make it easy for Derwin to cover players in pass defense. He has excellent vision and this makes it easy for him to look into the backfield and still see out of the corner of his eye his assign player as they are running a route. Derwin has a very high football IQ with excellent anticipation. He sees the whole field like a running back or linebacker even when he is close up to the line of scrimmage. Derwin has excellent size and quickness to cover most any size receiver in the slot and when in the red zone on the outside, against those big receivers or pass catching Tight Ends. He has unique talent, size, skills and unique football IQ and that’s the full package.

CONCERNS
Right now at the end of the college season I don’t believe Derwin still has all of his pure speed back from his knee injury and can get beat deep if you get behind him. In spite of that, there is no reason to down grade his skills and talent and football IQ, this kid is an impact player.

BOTTOM LINE
When you watch Derwin on film you see a player who is head and shoulders above his teammates and opponents in athletic talent, football skills and football IQ. He can play more than one position on your defense. He can play corner inside the red zone, cover those big receivers one on one in the slot, be your linebacker in nickel and dime, spy on those pesky quarterbacks who use the run to make first downs and because of his size Derwin is outstanding when used to blitz from deep or standing on the line. Because of his size and the fact that he is an excellent form tackler and high football IQ, Derwin has the ability to be moved around your defense as a robber, making impact plays. I’d like to see him communicate more with his teammates but because I don’t see him doing that on film doesn’t mean he is not doing it. A lot of athletes with this type of natural athletic and mental talent struggle to communicate because they really don’t know or understand how they do what they do, they just do it. In fact most players with this type of talent don’t understand why others CAN’T do what they do and this causes them to be frustrated with their teammates at times. Derwin is the type of defensive player you build your defense around. Think of him as a bigger version of former Steelers Troy Polamalu with better cover skills.
