Well we now have a 1400 yard piece of trade bait in McFadden

It would be nice to get some depth on the D line for him

Shit I'd take a stale bag o chips for him

He did a good job for us last year but he simply is not needed. He's more bailable as a trade piece than as a 3rd or 4th back

Why isn't he playing?

McFadden suffered an elbow injury and has been on PUP. they expect him to be back in another week or two.

I'd definitely be trying to trade him before week one assuming he gets healthy and none of our top-3 backs get hurt. Even if we just got a 5th or 6th rd pick for him, its something. Although maybe trading him plus a pick to get another DE would be nice too.

There's no way I'd keep him or Dunbar here unless someone gets hurt.

I do love it that we signed Morris though. The 1-2 punch these guys offer will be huge if they stay healthy.
Like I already said, nice problem to have. Plus it doesn't hurt when Jackson keeps showing that speed getting to the outside on sweeps and quick tosses, he brings yet another dimension. Hell, does Dunbar even stay on the roster? He's still on the PUP list right now. McFadden?

Posted before I saw this. It really looks like a embarrassment of riches at RB now, doesn't it?

And if we get in the habit of hanging fortyburgers on people, I like our chances of going 12-4 again.

I know what you are saying Dooms, but you are retarded with that line of thinking.

The only way Morris is going to get more work or out produce Elliott is if Elliott cant play due to injury.
Rethinking this, I can definitely see Zeke being the lead dog, and Morris spelling him midway through the 3rd quarter, fresh legs and change of pace, beating the opponent up while Zeke rests up for a big 4th quarter.....

Orrrrrr, if he simply, cannot play nearly as well as everyone seems to think. He CAN be a total bust, ya know? I agree that's unlikely, but much stranger things have happened.

I don't see Morris equaling his 1,600 yard rookie campaign though. If for no other reason than sharing carries in a RBBC setup Jason prefers.

I tend to take a wait and see mode on most of the things the Cowboys do but based on what I saw at Ohio St, Elliott is a baller. That being said I likely would not have drafted him at 4. I think he'll be real good, just not AP good, which is what I think you have to be to get drafted that high as a RB.

Watching game after practice, I'm in the 3rd quarter now.

Dak Prescott is making me look like a jackass. It's early but he is playing like someone who wants to be an NFL QB. It's fun to see a young Cowboys QB playing well. Can't remember the last time I could say that.

We have so much talent and money invested at RB. It still bugs me that we spent the 4th overall pick on Elliott.
Elliott - $4,537,516 cap hit
McFadden - $2,150,000
Morris - $1,300,000
Dunbar - $987,500
and Darius Jackson could be the steal of the draft.

Brice Butler could have a Laurent Robinson-type impact on this team. Cole Beasley is so dangerous in the slot. Dez looks like he's all the way back to being one of the premier receivers in the league.

The defense still scares the crap out of me. What the hell was the defensive call when Sean Lee had man coverage on the WR up top? Luckily, Tannehill never even looked that way. Claiborne looks good and I hope the FO doesn't mistake that for redemption of where they drafted him and give him a long-term deal. He might be a guy who needs to be pissed off to get focused.

If this Front Office can turn McFadden or Leary into a decent draft pick or heaven forbid, a defensive starter, I may have to FedEx apology letters to Frisco.

I'm hoping to see Gathers get some kind of run in the 4th quarter.

Is like to keep Leary unless we get a beast pass rusher for him. Which won't happen at this point . He's a starter for any other o-line besides ours.

I'm good with getting anything at all for McFadden and I doubt we could get anything for Randall due to him just coming back from injury

But I'd trade all three of them for a stud DE!

I'd be perfectly happy going into the season with Zeke, Morris and the Other rookie. He's looking pretty serviceable so far

Prescott only threw two errant passes. One was picked off, but he got a mulligan from a penalty that called it back. The other was an incomplete into coverage intended for Whitehead. That was it though. He was outstanding yet again overall.

Why keep Moore at this point? Prescott is clearly a better athlete, and better suited to NFL speed with his quick release and scrambling ability. Showers can be practice squad 3rd QB again so Moore looks to be the odd man out.

The best compliment I think I can give Prescott is that I am far less worried about Romo getting hurt than I was a few weeks ago. Even if he doesn't save a season it would still be worth giving Prescott all the snaps if Romo is out.

Old time Cowboys fans. Can you accept Dak Prescott as your possible QB of the future?

He does have a different skill set.

Sure....why not? I'm just shocked how seasoned he looks. And he has the benefit of one of the best OL's in the NFL so he's not running for his life. He's showing me everything I want to see from a QB: adequate arm, accuracy, smarts, field general, etc.

I also like Morris. I liked that pick-up when we made it. I know Zeke was the 4th pick, but did Morris earn the starting job? The big elephant in the room is the D. If we stay relatively injury free, we may just surprise this season.

The only downside I see is that Jason may be saved once again. He's a .500 HC with more than 9 lives.

Dak isn't making you look like a jackass. You did that on your own. :)

Seriously though, you couldn't understand his college career without having watched it. It was easy to miss, but Prescott was outstanding when he was healthy and playing with his more talented 2014 team. But several games into the 2014 season, Prescott was injured running the ball and wasn't close to 100% when his team was #1 in the country. His legs weren't right. His 2015 team wasn't particularly talented compared to other the SEC teams, so he was outgunned in 2015. His potential was always apparent, though. When his performance fell short, it was due to understandable factors (injury, lack of supporting cast). It wasn't because he "sucked," which is what a lot of people around here said for the past 6-8 months.

Can't we see Elliott play before we conclude it was a mistake to draft him?

When considering Elliott in a vacuum, as a stand alone player who lines up at RB, and if we ignore the larger context, it may be possible to conclude that the Cowboys didn't get "value" for their 4th pick when they took Elliott. But the larger context is incredibly compelling in this particular case.

Elliott may not be worth a #4, but the pairing of Elliott and this OL could be worth a #4. There is a decent chance that they'll be devastatingly effective together.

There's plenty of carries for both to get. 30 rushes a game is 480 carries for the season. Both guys could theoretically exceed 200 carries and at the end of the season neither guy is going to be worn down.
It certainly has the looks of being one of the best 1-2 punches in recent history.

this is what I had in mind when suggesting take some pressure off Zeke

No, the mob has spoken. :redface

On the one hand, you saw us move the ball and put up a lot of points without him. On the other hand, Morris has a lot of wear on his tires and McFadden is 30ish and injury prone. Once Bosa was off the board, we were kinda stuck from a pass rush perspective, and it was clear that we were not enamored with Ramsey (neither was I). But Jerry fell in love with Zeke and refused to trade down a few slots for fear of losing him. You can't lock in on one player like that, esp a RB.

Well if you believe the leaked draft board, Zeke was the #1 player on the board. There were even quotes from Marinelli saying Zeke had to be their guy if he was available. Seems like it was a consensus he was the best player in their eyes.

He's going to bring a lot to the team.

Yeah, I can see that happening too.

In order to stop the power running game and its dynamic rookie RB, will defensive coordinators be forced out of desperation to single Dez?

It could happen. And that isn't going to end well for defenses.
