I'd love to sign either Miller or Martin so that we wouldn't have to draft a RB at all.

If either were a decent deal, I'd consider it.

But we didn't pay Murray big bucks last yr, I doubt we'll ante up for either of them.

I think the fact that they missed Murray this year may convince them that they need to bring a guy in. You're right though, I wouldn't break the bank for either one.

In their minds, they didn't miss him. They got a 1000 yard rusher and never intended to feature the run anyway. Certainly not to the level of almost 400 carries.

If they get a RB they will draft one, rookie contracts are so much cheaper generally than signing a good vet at the position.

True, but they are going to have to spend money anyways. They will have about $30 mil in cap space. They will end up spending some of it on a RB or on the defense, either way I'd expect them to spend all of it.

But, hopefully not just waste any of it. Much cheaper to draft and sign a rookie RB than any quality veteran.

Where would you prefer they spend the money? Do you have any players in mind?

I know Miami has a couple young DL that will be free agents. Not sure what young LB's will be available though.

CB and SS was what I was thinking about on defense. Maybe a starting DE if they are letting Hardy walk and don't feel 100% comfortable that Gregory is ready fulltime.

The DT position is so deep in this draft, I'd rather see them wait and use a pick there for that.

Austin Johnson in the 2nd is who I would want in the draft. After Carr's contract I might be a little gun shy about bringing in a FA CB, especially with a limited pass rush. I would rather get players that can put pressure on the QB. Having a dominant pass rush makes your CB's and Safeties look so much better.

True, but there's only so much you can do to polish up a turd.

Church and Wilcox are both awful. It doesn't matter what kind of pass rush we have, they both beyond suck in space, cant make plays on the football and both (especially Church) are just putrid tacklers.

None of the CB's we have currently have shown an ability to make plays on the ball either.

True they both do suck. And Jeff Heath sucks worse than they do. I just think that teams should be built from the inside out and the DL should be the main priority (after drafting a QB in the 1st of course). I would flood the DL with as many good players as possible. And even though the secondary sucks even they won't look as bad if they are not having to cover for very long.

Where do you get $30 mil in cap space?

We are under $10 mil right now. Even if we dump Carr and his huge contract we still aren't anywhere near $30 mil

If we cut him after June 1st that frees up another $9 mil. We would also have to restructure Romo's contract again to get anywhere near your $30 mil number

That's the number they were throwing out on the Cowboys pod cast the other day on the Cowboys app. Brodus, Brad Sham, and someone else I can't remember. They were saying they can easily clear $30 mil in cap space. They would have to rework a couple contracts (without touching Romo's contract). Steve Dennis was even on the radio yesterday explaining how they could clear as much as $80 is they absolutely wanted to. Obviously they won't be doing that though. Doing that would include reworking (triggering a clause) Romo's contract. They don't want to touch Romo's contract though from what Steve Dennis was talking about.

You can clear a ton by restructuring some deals like Tyron and Dez

I hope Carr is a cap Casualty. That's an easy $9 mil. I doubt they'd restructure Dez after just singing the original this season. Tyron's is the second biggest hit behind Romo at $14 mil. I have no problem with him getting paid. He earned his money. Carr never has.

Don't be surprised if they do rework Dez deal. Didn't they rework Tyron's deal less than a year into it in order to resign Romo?

I'm fine with them reworking every damn body's contract as long as it frees up the money for us to go get the players to fill the positions we so desperately need

Romo's deal is the only one I do not want them to touch. His contract is escapable after 2 years and they need to leave it that way.

I actually think Heath is better than those 2. At least Wilcox. He's been in on way more plays than Wilcox has; and that's with seeing about 75% less snaps.

Wilcox just runs around the field all game.
