No fucking way he goes in the first.

Well he's on the record of running a 4.32 at Ohio state but supposedly recently he ran a 4.28 40...

Couple that with his progress as a wr and I'm not sure he stays out of the first.

Yeah, I think he could go at the end of the first. He's that good an athlete and he's produced against top competition.

What's his level of competition been this week?

Pump the brakes. It's only been a couple practices.

Also, to other fans that are getting a little too excited over this senior bowl... Keep in mind that the last 3 QBs that won MVP at this game were E.J. Manuel, Christian Ponder, and Pat White.

and truthfully, his competition at QB has been horrible. Hogan (hitch), Kessler (rag arm), and Driskell (just all around awful), have not given him any real competition this week.

He'll be throwing against a pretty good secondary and dealing with a really good DL in the game though. That's why I'm so anxious to see how he does in the actual game.

None of whom are even remotely close to Wentz in terms of throwing ability or talent for the QB position

Dude, you should be smarter than this

For the "level of competition" argument it doesnt matter who the other QB's are, it matters what types of defensive talent and defensive schemes he goes up against. The other QB's have nothing to do with how he throws, how he makes reads, how quickly he gets through progressions etc etc

I am too, although as scouts and coaches note the practices are more important in their eyes than the game itself...

Yea because they need to be able to see how the guy prepares for the game. How he studies film, or if he even does study film. And how serious is he taking this situation.

Amazing the difference between Garrett and Gus Bradley in coaching these practices.

Bradley is very animated, active, and vocal the entire time. Garrett stands there with his robot-grin while Marinelli and Linehan do everything, and barely says a word beyond a "Let's go 81" or "Attababy 79."

Gee dbair, I did not know that.

You mentioned the competition he is facing now and I pointed out that his only real competition in drills is the other quarterbacks. They are not going to let him get any real pressure in 7-on-7 drills or 9-on-7 running drills.

The game will be different. He will see elite level speed in real game action.

Well it didnt seem that way, since you said the other QB's were crap and that somehow makes him look "better"

What you had said previously regarding Wentz (and what I responded to in that other post) was you had concerns about his "level of competition", which means the other teams and types of players he was used to playing against. I pointed out that he isnt playing against those types of players now, and yet the reviews have been pretty good. if he was going to be overwhelmed by the "level of competition" it would have certainly shown some this week in practice.

If thats true, then why do all the pro personnel people, scouts and coaches say they care more about what happens the week of practice than the game itself?

Tony Pauline ‎@TonyPauline

Carson Wentz/QB/NDSU has made some incredible red zone throws into the end zone during drills and full scrimmage.

blah blah blah

Because you (the teams) control the things that happen in practice, they are very structured and practiced. Coaches/scouts know what to look for. Also, the scouts get to walk right up to you and watch everything you do from a few feet away. It still isn't competition so the "level of competition" argument isn't really applicable.

Look, Wentz is a good QB. Great tools, very good athleticism. I just don't think he's a top 5 pick.

Scouts came out of the 2013 Senior Bowl convinced EJ Manual was a franchise QB. Let's not act like they are flawless evaluators.

It's funny that you say that because I heard the exact opposite this morning. Brian Brodus in think it was, was saying that the North practices are very active. They're running the guys through drills at the moment practice starts. Where the South team is standing around for the first 20 min or so of practice and not being very active when it comes to running drills.

I'm not there obviously to see for myself but I think it's funny how there are two totally different views of what is going on.

one should remember how many other QBs wowed people at SB practices and were never heard from again as regards actually producing in the NFL.

One, it's Broaddus. You know who signs his check, right?

And two, the practices are on TV for all to see.

Also, I didn't say the North didn't practice hard, just that Bradley was far more involved and vocal.
