Lindy's Pro Football Preview: Cowboys rank third in NFC - Daily Norseman
The Vikings SB Nation blog has a copy of this year's Lindy's Pro Football Preview, from which they quote the overall 2013 rankings:
The teams that rank more highly that the Vikings are the San Francisco 49ers (71.0, the only NFC team to break the 70 mark), Green Bay (68.5), the Dallas Cowboys (67.5), the New Orleans Saints (67.5), and the Atlanta Falcons (67.0). The 66.0 is also equal to the score given to the Washington Redskins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and. . .surprisingly enough. . .everyone's pre-season darlings this year, the Seattle Seahawks.
Breakout Player to Watch: Dwayne Harris - SI.com
Chris Burke looks at players poised to take a leap in 2013, one of whom is Dwayne Harris:
"The 2011 draft has proven to be a major help for the Cowboys. They landed current starting left tackle Tyron Smith in Round 1, then plucked LB Bruce Carter and RB DeMarco Murray off the board in Rounds 2 and 3, respectively. Harris certainly has a chance to join the mix now as an impact player in his third season. Dallas’ talent on offense — Murray, Bryant, Austin and Witten — means that the No. 3 receiver, when the Cowboys’ offensive sets call for one, receives favorable coverage looks and has open space with which to work. Should Harris build off his strong close to 2012 and hold off Williams for the job, he could have a chance to develop into a dangerous playmaker."
Broaddus: Wilcox, Magee Both Showing Up More On Defense - DallasCowboys.com
Bryan Broaddus takes a look at newcomers on defense in J.J. Wilcox and Brandon Magee while emptying out his notebook during OTA practices. He also breaks down the new tight ends.
OTA observations: Good run by WRs - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Archer reflects on the highlights of the recent OTAS, describes Bruce Carter as "a sick athlete" and is optimistic about the Cowboys defense - if Carter and Lee remain healthy.
Free agents signed after June 1 don’t count in compensatory pick formula - PFT
Players signed after June 1 won’t help their former team’s haul of compensatory picks and likewise won’t impact the formula of the team that signs them. The Cowboys cleverly waited until June 3 to sign Dante Rosario. Waiting those extra three days may have secured the Cowboys an extra compensatory pick which they might have lost had they signed Rosario three days earlier.
Gosselin: The more LB, CBs, and safeties you have on special teams the better - DMN
The DMN features excerpts from a chat Rick Gosselin had recently, in which he makes an interesting point about this year's special teams and uncharacteristically provides a roundabout reason for optimism:
"The best special teams players are generally players who earn their living tackling folks. The more linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties you have on special teams -- and the fewer running backs, wide receivers and tight ends -- the better your special teams should be. Three later draft picks -- safety J.J. Wilcox in the third round, CB B.W. Webb in the fourth and LB DeVonte Holloman in the sixth -- all figure to be factors for the Cowboys on special teams this season. [...] Those four players represent your hopes for improvement."
Cowboys announce daily practice schedule at training camp in Oxnard - Star-Telegram

Where Your Dallas Cowboys Cap Dollars Are Going - Mike Fisher, CBS Dallas
Lo and behold, the Cowboys have got themselves some cap space. As unlikely as it may sound, the Cowboys may enter the regular season with as much as $6.5 million cap space - and that already includes signing all rookies. And they could create even more space by signing Anthony Spencer to an extension.
Jerry Jones: Large number of injuries in 2012 has Dallas Cowboys ‘more sensitive’ during offseason workouts - John Machota, DMN
The Cowboys are trying to be a little more circumspect in trying to avoid injuries to their players after the rash of injuries last season:
"While we don’t want to make it an excuse, there’s no question that injury, especially on defense, impacted us last year," Jones said Tuesday. "So, we’re trying to do as good of a job as we can, looking at some things, changing some things in what we’re doing relative to not getting soft tissue injuries, especially. But I think fresh off of last season, when we thought injuries impacted our season a lot, [it was determined that] we would be more sensitive during this offseason as to being conservative on injury."
Joseph Randle: Learning Dallas Cowboys’ ‘more complex’ playbook is biggest adjustment from college - John Machota, DMN
The headline gives away the bulk of the article.
Jerry Jones on Cowboys' draft board getting out: '"I don’t see the negative aspect of that information' - Star-Telegram
Jerry Jones downplays the importance of the leaked draft board in an odd statement:
"I’m a little hard-pressed to see where the issue is at all after the draft is over," he told reporters Tuesday at Valley Ranch. "We don’t put anything up there that’s particularly sensitive. Those are the opinions and the work of our scouts. The fact that there might have been a player up there a round earlier or a round later than it is on a lot of other people’s boards or opinion doesn’t impact us." "I don’t see the negative aspect of that information," Jones said. "We won’t make it a practice of publishing it, but still, I don’t think it’s an important detail."
Dante Rosario could have special teams impact - Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Watkins points out a rather obvious connection: Rosario last suited up for San Diego, where he played for new Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
"(Bisaccia) had a lot to do with me coming here," Rosario said of special teams coach Rich Bisaccia, who was hired by Dallas in the offseason after two seasons in San Diego. "I enjoyed playing under him on special teams in San Diego and I'm looking forward to doing that here and being able to learn from Jason Witten, who I consider one of the best all-around tight ends in the league."
