The last time our OL was any good was 2007 and we went 13-3. They've been poor to average at best since.

New Orleans has a much better OL. I don't even know why you'd make that comparison. It's like you've never seen them (or us) play.

I'm with SP. Maybe our O-line talent isn't as good as NO's, but the story of ours being such a disaster that we can't even function is way overblown.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but it's true: Coaching is so huge. If Sean Payton had been here the last couple of years, the same O-line players would look a lot better. Those guys usually make Pro Bowls when the team plays well, anyway. Flozell Adams was in the league six years before he made a Pro Bowl. It was five years for Gurode and seven for Leonard Davis. No one really thinks they suddenly got more talent after all those years, do they?

Carl Nicks, Charles Brown, Jermon Bushrod, Jahri Evans, etc... Nope. Not good at all. Certainly not better than our line full of pro bowlers.

:lol Embarrassing.

Bingo. Two of the best guards in the league compared to Livings and Bernadeau.

?

Our line consisted of Free, Bernadeaux, Cook, Livings, Smith

Leaving out Smith who wasn't so great himself. PLease tell me if the other 4 were at least average at best

Cowboys sign one of the tackles they worked out, J.B. Shugarts, plus former Duke long snapper

The Cowboys signed one of the offensive tackles they worked out this week.

J.B. Shugarts, a former top recruit from Klein who spent last year with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, joined the Cowboys, along with long snapper Jackson Anderson, an undrafted rookie who spent five years at Duke.

To make room, the Cowboys released long snapper Charley Hughlett and receiver Carlton Mitchell.

Shugarts signed with the Browns after the draft last year, was cut and signed to the practice squad in September, released a week later, then joined the Bills practice squad in December and was released three weeks later.

With Shugarts’ signing, the Cowboys have six tackles on the roster, including Doug Free, Tyron Smith, Jermey Parnell, Darrion Weems and Edawn Coughman.

The team also worked out tackle Dann O'Neill.

They let go of Jamaal Brown who has been kind of meh as a Redskin.

And I can't even name one of their starting OTs. Most people couldn't.

I think there is merit to both sides here. NO has assembled some talent on their lines, and the other part is schematic.

Wouldn't it be just absurd and asinine for a coach to implement a downfield passing scheme that take time to develop each route based on the reading and reaction to the defense, when the coach knows full well that the O-line might not be strong enough to protect the QB for very long? And then with very little short pass scheme to protect the QB and an allergy to a running game, that at the very least could manage 3.4 yards per carry, that would also protect the QB, how absurd and asinine would that coach be to continue to push a system that does not account for the inherent weaknesses nor truly take advantage of the short pass abilities of the WRs? I just can't imagine a Sean Payton, Harbaugh, Belichick, McCarthy, or even Pete Carroll doing that.

I think if we heard about a coach that would make such decisions, that year after year were producing the same results, using unchanging methods, we would all chuckle and say:
"What an idiot. I'm glad he is not coaching the Cowboys."

They had talent though. Most of the guys we have trotted out there the past couple yrs don't. That's the difference.

Dallas has one potential franchise OL in Tyron Smith. We don't know what Frederick is yet, but hopefully he will be a high quality starter early on. Livings is an average player. Bernadeau is a below average player. Costa looked improved last yr but didn't play enough for us to really know. Prior to last yr he was pretty bad. Free was good in 09 and 10 but dreadful in 11 and 12.

I don't know how you or anyone in their right mind could say these guys are comparable (favorably) to a team like New Orleans.

Coaching can only do so much. Jimmy Johnson was as good a coach as there was when he was here, and even he went 1-15 and 7-9 for two years. Why do you think that was?
