Having a world beater at #2 is a luxury.

They barely even utilized 2TEs last year as a true 2 TE set. Bennett was basically a 6th OL. He went out on passing routes very rarely.

Get a guy who can block and call it a wash.

Dallas should go away from 2TEs anyway. Get 3WRs out there........provided they can find a capable #3 I suppose.

They held Witten or Bennett in as blockers on passing downs because of the struggles of the OL, not because its what they ideally what they wanted to do.

They ran 2 TE sets on more than 1/3 of the offensive snaps, thats alot.

They held Bennett in significantly more. Not really shocker considering Witten is the better receiver but a new TE changes that very little.

Unless Dallas finds a guy who is on par with Witten and has similar chemistry with Romo, that #2 TE will always get few chances thereby completely nullifying the "creating mismatches" argument that the 2 TE formations were completely built upon.

Secondly, any TE drafted will also likely be held in because they can only really afford to spend maybe 1 pick on OL in the 1st 3 rounds.

Dallas had 1 OL play well last year. Smith. A couple of project castoffs and 1 adequate starter from the draft still leaves a lot of wishing and praying to be done before the team won't absolutely have to rely on blocking help.

The #2 TE will not supplant Witten this year or likely for another few years and will not get adequate looks in the passing game until the team is confident in the OL.

Dallas using the formation 1/3rd of the time isn't even all that much. Phrase as spending a 2nd rounder on a guy who will line up less than half the time based on scheme alone and it sounds a little worse considering they could probably get a OL to line up all season at that position in the 2nd round.

Not to mention Dallas has a legit blocking FB now. I hope to God the team isn't so hard up for a #2 TE that they would consider going with 1 WR more than they have in the past.

Fans want all these pro bowl glamour players, when what we need is a fortified Oline and Dline. I'm pretty sure that Romo, Murray, Witten, Dez, Miles, and new fullback dude can figure out the rest if the Oline does their job.

As is, the Oline is a piece of shit though, and we're still not getting a push to disrupt QBs from the front 7 on defense. If they continue to ignore these things, they'll continue to suck ass. It's not like the Giants and Eagles are getting any worse. Fuck, even the Skins will be relevant is RGIII pans out. This is becoming a joke.

I see Pittsburgh signed Pope today. I would have liked to have signed him as a #2/#3

I didn't even realize he was still on the market, but same here. I thought we reportedly liked him when he was coming out, too. Wonder why we didn't try to sign him after we didn't get the guy from Chicago.

I won't be surprised if we draft a TE pretty early, though. One thing Jerry's shown is that he likes to copy trends around the league, and everyone (including Garrett) saw what New England did last year.

And for what it's worth, it was reported at the time that the Garretts (both of them) are the ones who didn't like Fasano. Supposedly they thought he wasn't smart enough to learn the playbook.

Yeah, cuz Bennett, Dez, and Ogletree sure have been huh? Brilliant.

We are blessed to have the Garrett brothers.

There's still a few peckerhead stragglers who want a db, but I think most of us want someone 280 lbs +

I've even mocked overkill scenarios where our first 3 picks are all linemen of some variety. It's just time to try it this way.

Heard cox on NFL radio...he sounded like an intelligent adult ready to handle a big responsibility.......he would be awesome...

Especially compared to that kid from north Carolina who sounded like he was reading from a script and couldnt even answer simple questions.

Thinking a bit more about Bennett...that '08 draft is slowly becoming a fucking joke.

1) Rumors to trade Felix...who has been injured and pretty much a disappointment (especially since Mendenhall and CJ went after)
1) Jenkins is likely out. He'll demand $10 million a year...we'll offer $5 and let him walk
2) Bennett obviously gone (Fasano was better anyway)
3) Tashard Choice...nuff said
4) Scandrick sucks balls
5) Walden or some random...

I love how homers are saying that Jerry's slowly figuring it out. He's not figuring out shit, and he hired another puppet HC that's also equally retarded.

Fix the trenches + let Romo audible at will + hope that Ginger Rich Kotite gets caught in a Bobby Petrino type scandal = formula for championship

I think we're fucked till all of those things occur.

Why even bother man?

Seriously, I dont think I've ever seen one even half way positive post from you. If the team sux that much and is this much of a headache for you, there are 31 other teams. Or maybe pick up some other sport.

If it werent for your sig, every post you make would be a waste of time.

IRVING, Texas -- Having lost Martellus Bennett to the New York Giants in free agency and facing a thin draft class, the Cowboys are looking at veteran tight end Joey Haynos.

Haynos worked out for the Cowboys last week on their Dallas Day tryouts for local draftable prospects.

Haynos, 6-8, 270 pounds, did not play last year after he was released in training camp by Jacksonville. He entered the league with Green Bay in 2008 and spent parts of the next three seasons with Miami, catching 21 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns.
